2012 Recruit List

Players that have made visits or will be making visits before Feb 1st.

Shaun Wick (RB 5-11-190 2 STAR) visited Sac st on 12/10/2011 commited to Wyoming
Junior Kavienga(S JC 5-11-220) visited Sac st on 12/09/2011 UNDECIDED
Jacob Bowman (OLB 6-1-185) visited Sac st on 12/14/2011 commited to Sac st
Demetrius Warren(RB 5-11-185 2 STAR) visited Sac st on 1/13/2012 commited to Sac st
Nehemiah Mitchell(DE 6-5-240 2 STAR) visitd Sac St on 1/14/2012 commited to Sac st
Nolan Sorensen (QB 6-5-205) visited Sac st on 1/14/2012 UNDECIDED
Bryce Howard (OT 6-5-265) Scheduled to visit Sac st on 1/28/2012
Eric Smith CB -Scheduled to visit Sac st on 1/28/2012

3 of the 6 visits on this list resulted in verbals. 2 still undecided and 2 visit still to come. Looks like the new field house, turf, video board and tarping around the stadium are impressing the recruits.

Assuming Sorensen has no relation to Brad at SUU? I watched a couple recruiting videos of him and he's very raw IMO.

He's got a big frame, but from the pictures I've seen he looks like a little kid. This means, lots of room to grow, mature and surprise folks. He could be a diamond in the rough. He'll also need plenty of work on his wind up motion and footwork; takes him a long time to release the ball and he's not fluid in the pocket. He does appear to throw the deep ball quite well.

Looks like we both lost out on Christian Tober. From the OC Varsity Blog:

San Clemente All-County defensive back Christian Tober (5-9, 175) has decided to accept a preferred walk-on to USC, his father, Mark, reports.

The speedy senior had offers from San Diego, Sacramento State, South Dakota State and Cal Poly SLO. He also made an official recruiting trip to Sacramento State.

Tober has a burst, especially as return man. He also is an excellent cornerback. He is talented enough that USC fans should keep an eye out for him. He’s a baller

Sac State lands Templeton OL Casey Dakin (6'5" 260).

Last summer, Casey Dakin attended a football camp at Sacramento State and began to build a strong relationship with the Hornets coaching staff.
There were other schools, but Dakin remained loyal to Sacramento State with their relationship reaching a peak Sunday when the Templeton High senior lineman gave a verbal commitment to play for the Hornets after an official weekend visit.

A very decent pick. He can make holes for the backs. And when on the DL, he's tackler. I like this get a lot.

ESPN recruiting shows Brandon Hughes as a commit to Fresno State. Shows that he commited on 1/29 after a visit on 1/27. So it looks like we lost him.

Scout too. Saw that yesterday on there. Rivals still has him committed to Sac St. He was the first commit and had been committed since last July I believe. Sucks. Well, if he was lost Hughes, at least two were gained; Bowman from Chaminade Prep and Dakin from Templeton High.

2012 Signing Day is here there was a decent haul this year. A mixture of FBS drop downs, JC transfers, but predominately FR recruits. Good to see this coaching staff finding and landing players from all available areas.

The Hornetsports link has video clips as well as the usual bio blurbs.

SSS is running what looks like a little blurb on each recruit as well. Here is a link to the first one and it looks like there will be many more of these posted throughout the day.

Wow, if A.J. Ellis (Transfer from Fresno State) can stay healthy, he could be a beast at RB for us. Three-star RB/CB coming out of high school.

This pick up is a head scratcher for me. His write-up says he has battled injuries his collegiate career and he only has one year of eligibility left. Dare I open up a can of worms and say Shaw is done? It doesn’t makes sense to carry 2 RB’s with one year left both of whom have injury issues. Unless there were a couple of scholarships to burn, I can’t wrap my head around this one. I hope it works out though. :|

The State Hornet article on 2/8 about signing day indicates that 5 more scholarships are available yet to offer.
Two more added: a kicker who was near perfect inside of 40 yards at JC last year, and another big FR OL.

Thanks Jebus, a kicker. AND, I love the size and potential for development for any 18-year old player who is 6'5" 300 Lbs...

you have to love that size, but you have to hope it doesnt turn into another born situation

Just noticed this WR Thomas. He was also a 2 guard at Sheldon and was recruited by UOP.

Sac stole one from UOP. A cause for celebration, is it not?

Seriously, though, I take it he has an upside for football that he doesn't have for hoops, sort of like Gates? I wonder if he's considering the two-sport route. Would Sperbeck or Katz object to that?
