2012 Recruits (Early Signing-Nov 2011)

We signed a player this spring, Adam Thoseby from England via Maine Central Institute Prep. Same position, same size, and very similar game to Ott. He's even left handed like Ott.

Thoseby, eh? Yeah, I saw some things on him on the Aggie forum. He looks like a good player. Nice find by Stew. But wait, I thought he was taking Norvell Arnolds open spot. Isn't he eligible to play this year? What is your take on Ott?

Weber State recruit Calean Robinson verballed to Arizona State...he is the third player on Weber's States list to go to ASU. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsrecruiting/52320763-54/robinson-byu-arizona-asu.html.csp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (I guess BYU also was going after him).

Yes, Thoseby is eligible to play this year. I don't know who's spot he took. Maybe Bruneel took Arnold's spot. We were looking for a SG/SF type player with certain skills. Thoseby came in late, and after playing ratball with other Aggie players this spring, the staff offered and he jumped on it. We're loaded with young wings, and just don't have any room for any more, so we had to rescind the offer to Ott.

My opinion on Ott is that he'd be a good player at the Big Sky level. He's not exceptionally quick, handles the ball fairly well but not good enough for a D1 SG IMO, shoots from 3 well, and has exceptional hops. IMO he projects more as a 3 than a 2 in D1. He now has offers from you, as well as UTEP, Pepperdine, SUU, Arkansas State, and Dixie State. I think the WCC and CUSA are too high for him, but also think he wants to go high. Kind of big timing it. No proof, but I think he really wants offers from BYU and Utah, but won't get them unless something odd happens with the recruiting of those two programs. My money is on Weber State to sign him. He seemed to like the Aggie program, but had kind of a take it or leave it opinion about it, and I think that had something to do with our staff going for Thoseby and taking back the offer.

Yeah, I agree with your evaluation of Ott. He seems like he would be a solid 3. He has a nice looking outside shot and does a decent job of playing around the rim. As for BYU or Utah, it just seems like if they were interested, they would have given him an offer already.

Catcat makes a good point. Its nice to see who else is going after our recruits.

I found some interesting things. Weber is really active in AZ right now.

Cody McDavis Pinnacle High 6-8 PF/C
James Harper Brophy College Prep (Phoenix AZ). Not sure, but he could be the son of Todd Harper 6-4 SG
Kevin Bowman Pinnacle High 6-1 G
Stacy Davis Tolleson High (AZ) 6-7 F

All have worked out for, or have been evaluated by the Weber State staff. I'm not sure if any of them have been offered by the Cats, but I do know that Weber has interest in them. Like I said before, James Harper might be the son of former Weber State great (Hall of Fame member) Todd Harper. They do look a lot alike and play a very similar style of ball.

We have offered Stacy Davis. He only had offers from Pepperdine and Lasalle, and sure enough Utah St. Just offered, as did Fresno St.

Hell of a great kid and player. I'm thinking he will be coming on a visit to Weber.

I'm thinking, and this is merely my opinion, that Weber offered Davis probably because Loveridge isn't a possibility anymore. I'm sure that is why Utah State offered too. Loveridge is heading to the mid-major WCC in all likelihood. Yet, I can see another Hinds drama playing out over Loveridge between BYU and Utah.

Does anyone know when the Wizard is going to be brining in our Visits?

Really, what is Weber's chances of getting Davis? I guess, at this late of date, that Weber wouldn't have offered if they didn't think they had a great shot at getting Davis. I'm not worried about Fresno, Lasalle, or Pepperdine, but I am about USU. Do they even has a scholie available for Davis?

We pulled our offer from Baker after his 2nd visit. The coaches are not interested in guys who take plays off, and play at 50% when they feel like it. They are not going to put up with demands from players or their parents either.

Davis' father told an AZ website that his son has open offers from a number of schools. He is a good kid and a good player.

Davis Sr. advised me that his son has double-digit scholarships offers now as such school as Fresno State, Pepperdine, Utah State, Saint Mary's, Weber State, Eastern Washington, UC-Santa Barbara, Sienna, UC-Davis, UC-Riverside and a host of other programs have now extended offers to the talented post prospect.

Wonder how this plays out, who will promise what:

Davis advised me that his son still does not have a preference right now on where he goes, but that playing time will be a key factor.

Our coaches sure are doing a great job identifying in State talent and going after them early.

We were the first to offer Collette
We were the first to offer Loveridge by far, early in his Soph year
We were the first to offer Ott
We were the first to offer Mika for 2013..

Everyone single one of them have been offered by the usu dorks after we offer. Nov 15 can't come early enough.

Yeah, Weber offers first, but unfortunately, usually gets the shaft.

Not always, Utah State started recruiting Mike Brown well before Weber State but Weber State jumped and offered first and he verballed before Utah State ever offered! Not that Utah State was going to have the foresight to offer anyway.

This is the most updated list that I can find. I'm sure I'm missing some name here and there, but this is the best that I can do.

Offers:
Jordan Loveridge...he has come on two or three unofficial visits. He likes Rahe, but chances are its a mUte vs. Cougar battle now.
Tyler Ott...USU withdrew their offer. Yes he has offers from UTEP and SUU, but Weber has been close from the beginning. Has good support and help from his parents. Good to hear.
Stacy Davis...Nice looking athlete. Weber has been recruiting him for sometime now. He has a number of offers from other schools. If he comes on a visit that is a great sign. Pepperdine and USU are after him.
Kyndahl Hill...Nice looking wing from Texas. He was receiving scholie offers for football from BCS programs. He decided in June to focus on basketball. He has a couple of other offers; TX Arlington and UNT.
Zack LeDay...I've heard that he blew up this summer, but I can't find a lot of information on him. He probably has a number of offers from mid to major DI programs.
Shavon Sheilds http://heardthisblog.com/?p=600..." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. He has an offer from Nebraska. Weber, though, has a long relationship with him and his family.
Devon Turk http://www.houstonpreps.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=163:college-recruitment-updates&catid=1:latest-news.." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. He has been on the Wildcat Radar for sometime. Top Schools. Sam Houston State and Weber

Interest:
Edward Seay
Connor Devine
Bruce Marshall
Tanner Samson
Isaiah Tademy
Jaden Jackson
Jordan Pryor

Sorry all... Georgi Funtarov also has an offer from Weber State and Bowling Green: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2011/aug/01/kc-pump-n-runs-title-run-finally-ends/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I had a great visit with Coach Rahe the other day regarding Tyler Ott. He has always been upfront and honest which is so refreshing, believe me. Tyler is a "play a year then go on a mission" kid. As the recruiting process has progressed they now do not have a scholarship at the wing position that they can burn for a red shirt year (they don't think Tyler would be able to help them until after his mission). They do want him as preferred walk on with a probable scholarship in 2015. That is where we are with Weber. It is definitely a possibility because of how much Tyler likes the coaches. Hopefully, Weber can close the deal with Loveridge. Coach said he needs a 4 and 5 with his last 2 scholes.

As far as Utah State Tyler never was going to go there for a number of reasons. (I might add USU was Mom and Dad's first choice but he never planned on going there). The last couple of talks with Stew kind of let them know that and they were chalk full of players anyway so the took back their offer.

BYU and U of U were never really on his radar too much as well. He went through the process with both but not a lot of love was shown back and forth. His two main wants were always Arizona State or UC Santa Barbara. Arizona State was fortunate enough to get Caleaan Robinson so they never offered because they had commits for all their openings. UC Santa Barbara was the heartbreaker. We thought it was a done deal. They misunderstood the LDS mission though. They thought he was going right out of high school. When they got to the details they needed him when he was going to be on his mission and couldn't make it work with their plans.

A lot of people that watched him a lot this summer though don't think C-USA or the WCC or even the Pac-12
are too "big" for him. It is all a matter of how early he plays.

It sounds like Mr. Ott is saying and doing all of the right things. He sounds like a really good kid and player. From what has been said, it sounds like Randy has already recieved at least one commitment. One thing that I have observed about our coaching staff is that they are not that eager to get commitment anouncements out, like many other programs seem to be. For good reason, they keep things in house, as much as they can. The simple truth is that we are losing a 3/4 player and a 4/5, and that we are loaded with 1/2 type players. It sounds like Tyler is a 2/3 kind of player, or primarily a wing. If we are fortunate enough to have him play for us, great. If not, I wish him well. Sounds to me like he is going to land on his feet, no matter what. :twocents:

The recruiting process is quite the ordeal. Fortunately, Utah schools understand the mission experience a lot better than out of state schools, and know how to best work with players who are planning to serve a mission. It is really nice knowing how honest and upfront coach Rahe is with his recruits and their families. Tyler is a really solid player with some nice abilities. Wherever he ends up, he will do a good job and be highly appreciated for his efforts. Personally, I think his plans (missionary service) is by far the most important thing he can do now. Good for him to plan on doing that!! To me, that says a lot about what type of kid he is. I really hope he comes to Ogden and plays for the Wildcats.

Oldrunner-- I totally agree with you. Coach is probably trying to sign three players in this recruiting class. Evidently, a 2/3 type of player (wing) has already verballed, or is a sure bet. I guess we will find out in the near future. I think that the coaching staff likes to make announcements after a recruits official visit. Like it has been stated before on this forum. It is totally at the coaches discretion that he or his staff, make announcements. Either way, I think it is just fine.

Actually, coaches are not allowed to make any anouncements until a player has signed a letter of intent. Prospects, themselves are the ones who make anouncements. A player might be encouraged to do so by a coach, but it is ultimately the player's choice. What usually happens is a player commits, the coach then explains to him what can and can not be said to the press and when such things might be be appropriate. I have seen players and coaches sit on this kind of information for a long time, and for a lot of reasons. :ugeek:

I've heard that recruits will be visiting campus this weekend. Someone go to the Women's Volleyball game and report on who you see there. I will be Laramie watching the Cats pull off the W against the Cows.
