2012 WAC Baseball Tournament

The final started about 40 min ago.

It is now end 2, Hornets up 1-0.

Cederquist struck out. Del Grande HBP, out at second on Soto's fielder's choice. Hottman doubled down the left field line, scoring Soto. Higley was intentionally walked to set up the force at third. Hottman and Higley advanced on a wild pitch. Chung struck out swinging.

Go Hornets!

Bot 3.

Ayers grounded out. Paine singled to left. Paine advanced on a balk. Hoskins singled to center, Paine scored, Hoskins to second on the throw home. Cederquist grounded to second, Hoskins to third. Del Grande walked. Hoskins scored on a wild pitch. Del Grande out at second on Soto's fielder's choice.

Hornets up 3-0 after 3. That's TWICE now that Soto has gotten Del Grande caught at second. We may have to do somethin about that....

FSU got one back in the 4th, and Sac got nothing.

Greenwood relieved Mendonca to start the 5th for Sac. That is where it stands right now, top 5.

FSU got another one in the 5th.

For Sac, Hoskins singled to left center. Cederquist flied out to right. Del Grande fouled out to right. Hoskins out at second on Soto's fielder's choice.

That's THREE times for Soto tonight.....

Hornets up 3-2 after 5....

Fresneck got an unearned run in top 6 to tie the score.

For the Hornets:

Hottman singled to short. Higley reached on a fielder's choice to short. Hottman was safe at second due to a bad hop at short resulting in an error. Hottman advanced to third and Higley advaned to second on Chung's groundout to third. Hottman scored and Higley advanced to third on Ayers' sac fly to center, chasing the pitcher. Higley scored on Paine's single to right. Hoskins struck out swinging. Both runs unearned.

Hornets up 5-3 after 6.

Fresno has tied it again. Walks are killing the Hornets in top 7.

Moses replaced Hoskins in left to start the inning. Two straight singles followed by a sac fly chased Greenwood, who was replaced by Hoelzen. Hoelzen walked two in a row before giving way to Creel, who walked in two runs. Then Nichols replaced Creel. Nichols walked in ANOTHER run before inducing a fly to center to end the inning.

FSU now up 7-5, middle 7.

Bottom 7:

Cederquist singled to left. Del Grande reached on a fielding error at third, Cederquist to second. Soto struck out swinging. Higley grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

FSU still up 7-5.

Top 8: It's starting to get out of hand.

FSU got another pair and another Hornet pitcher hit the showers. Morgan is now the Hornet pitcher. Sac is starting to run out of pitchers.

FSU up 9-5.

Bottom 8:

Chung grounded to third. Ayers singled to center. Paine popped to second. Moses singled down the right field line, Ayers to third. Cederquist popped out.

FSU still up 9-5. Hornets MUST hold in the 9th and get the bats moving....

I don't get it. They're calling it a final after top 9 with Sac (as the home team) losing. But now Sac is hitting in a supposedly "final" game. Go figure....

Del Grande doubled down the left field line. Soto bunt-singled to third, Del Grande to third. Hottman struck out swinging. Soto out at second on Higley's fielder's choice, Del Grande scored. Chung struck out swinging.

Now it really is a final. FSU wins 9-6. Game 11 is now necessary, and will start at noon local time tomorrow. Looks like Soto got a taste of his own medicine there. If the Hornets can get a grip on their pitching, they should win tomorrow. It was only that streak of four or five straight walks that doomed the Hornets tonight. Outside of that, this game is going extra innings.

I was checking the score from time to time on live stats and it looked like our pitching fell apart. Hopefully the Hornets can bounce back and claim the WAC crown.

Go Hornets!!!

Top 6 in the final. Sac up 2-0 and at the plate. Paine led off with a whiff and Hoskins popped to second. Cederquist grounded to first, unassisted.

In the 3rd, Soto singled, stole second, and scored on Chung's single. In the 4th, Hoskins doubled and scored on Soto's grounder to second.

The Hornets got Fresneck 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 6th.

In top 7:

Del Grande singled to left. Del Grande advancd to second on Soto's fielder's choice bunt (which Soto beat out). Hottman bunt-grounded to first, nobody advanced. Higley struck out swinging. Chung lined out to center.

After an incredible first six innings, Dallas Chadwick finally started throwing some bad pitches, I guess. FSU got to him for three runs in the seventh to take the lead, but as of now, he is still in, as is Fresneck's starter. I suppose both teams' having burned through the bullpen last night has something to do with that.

Top 8:

Ayers singled to left. Paine singled up the middle, Ayers to second. FSU pitching change. Hoskins out via infield fly rule to short. Cederquist reached on fielder's choice, Ayers to third, Paine to second on 2B throwing error. Chapin ran for Cederquist. Ayers scored on Del Grande's grounder to second, Paine to third and Chapinto second. Soto lined out to second.

Score tied at 3, middle 8.

Davis relieved Chadwick in bottom 8 for the Hornets. Davis gave up a walk on four pitches, but otherwise was fine as the walkee was stranded.

Top 9:

Hottman struck out looking. Higley bunt-singled to third. Chung flied out to center. Ayers grounded to second.

I guess we'll have to hope for extra innings. :-(

OK. We're going extra. FSU threatened a one-out rally with a pair of singles, but that was snuffed out by an inning-ending line-out double play at third.

Top 10th:

Paine singled to right center. Hoskins struck out swinging. Adrian hit for Chapan. Adrian singled to center, Paine to second. Del Grande popped to second. Soto singled to third, Paine to third, Adrian to second. Soto out at second on Hottman's fielder's choice.

Here we go again. With two out in the bottom of the tenth, Davis has issued two straight walks. The response to a stolen base is an IBB to get to a cleanup hitter batting .337?!? But it worked out. A fly to center ends it.

Top 11:

Higley grounded to second, followed by a pitching change. Chung struck out swinging. Ayers flied to right.

It's getting tight again. A walk, sacrificed to second, followed by another walk and an infield fly to third. And the 11th is done with a whiff.

Top 12:

Paine singled up the middle. Hoskins flied to center. Adrian struck out swinging. Del Grande flied to right.

Ugh!
