2013-14 Men’s Schedule

Anyone got the scoop on who is going to be scheduled in OOC games? The schedule usually comes out around this time of year, hopefully it will be published soon.

BSC has one more year of 20 BSC games and with Bracketbusters gone, I anticipate a pretty weak OOC schedule. Here is who we know will be on the schedule:

@ farm extension
@ Bako
vs. UCSB
2 road money games
at least 2 non-D1 home games (3 if you count the exhibition game)

That leaves a couple of empty slots open in the OOC schedule. Any rumors or guesses as to who it might be?

I'd like to see Chico State added in the future. From what I've heard, I think we have only played Davis more times. Should generate some interest. No more NAIAs if we can help it.

UCSB is not on the schedule. UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, UTEP, William Jessup. Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside along with Bako and Davis. That is the schedule.

Interesting and thanks for the info pgp. UCSB owes us a return trip for the Braketbusters game last season, maybe they deferred until next season or bought it out. Do you know which games will be home and away?

I know. I just think our fans (myself included) would be more interested I seeing local rivals than the various NAIA and DIII schools we typically schedule.

Would Chico bring in more fans than Jessup or Modesto or whoever? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t think it matters to most, personally I see all non D-1 opponents in the same light.

Jessup being local has some name recognition in the area and probably would bring some of their fans. Chico like SF State, Humboldt St. etc. would be a great match, former league mates, many alumni in the area etc. All lower division teams are not equal. If you are going to schedule one you might as well schedule a school that has some name recognition or the we have a connection with instead of somebody like the Academy of the Arts.

We could easily lose to a Humboldt and Chico. They have better facilities and are usually a force in D2.

These schools aren't scheduled b/c they have more negative potential than anything gained. Its all about perception. We should beat teams like Jessup and Arts and other NAIA's, our odds of obtaining a W are 85%, if we lose to a lesser division CSU peer it just diminishes the 'Sac' brand.

Hopefully, with the new website and Nelligan, we will start to see more development of the Sac brand.

I'd like to see one more exhibition, but otherwise, this looks like a pretty decent schedule. That second exhibition ought to be the Jessup game; that should NEVER be a counter....

I consider both “regular season” play down games as exhibitions so in my eyes we have 3 exhibitions.

They function as that, sure. But if they're not "official" exhibitions, then they count. Because they count, that's a hit on our RPI. While that may not be a factor in getting us an at-large bid to the NCAAs (it's highly unlikely that the Big Sky will get more than one bid in any season), it just might be a HUGE factor in whether or not we're a 13-15 seed or in the stupid play-in game if we DO by some miracle win the Sky's auto-bid. We're probably not in any danger of that happening THIS season, but it's something that we should look out for as we improve in league play.

Look the reality of why we play two non-D I schools every year has everything to do with our facility. Replace it with a real arena and these games for the most part will go away (not entirely, but most years it would).

Just for comparison I looked at Cal's schedule for the last 4 yrs. They played San Francisco State, UC San Diego, Sonoma State, and Chico State to lead off their schedules. To my knowledge none of these schools are D1 and Cal has a much better facility than we do.

Were those exhibitions? I don’t see those schools listed on the Cal schedules showing up on ESPN. However I agree that almost everyone does schedule these play down games. The Hornets typically have a limited amount of home games and it sucks that 2 of them are used on play down games.
