13-17 (10-10 BSC), possible BSC tourney???

2013/14 Predictions
  • • Fri Nov. 8 UC Santa Cruz – Play down game, should be a win. Record: 1-0, (0-0)
    • Wed Nov. 13 at CSU Bakersfield – Bako only returns their 4th leading scorer from a season ago. Toss up; I’m going to be a homer. Record: 2-0, (0-0)
    • Mon Nov. 18 at UCLA – Bad news is the Bruins lost Shabazz Muhammad but returns everyone else. The good news is the Hornets will get a paycheck for this beatdown. Record: 2-1, (0-0)
    • Tue Nov. 26 at farm extension – They return everyone, but the Hornets just need to stop Hawkins. My homerism should will the Hornets to victory. Record: 3-1, (0-0)
    • Sat Nov. 30 UC Irvine – Anteaters return 3 of their top 6 scorers and it looks like a lot of different players contribute. Toss up; Hornets need to protect the Nest. Record: 4-1, (0-0)
    • Sat Dec. 7 at UTEP – Miners return 3 of their top 4 scorers coupled with a game at elevation equates to an ugly loss. Record: 4-2, (0-0)
    • Sat Dec. 14 William Jessup - Play down game, should be a win. Record: 5-2, (0-0)
    • Sat Dec. 21 at Cal State Fullerton – Titans lost their 3 top scorers, if the Hornets can overcome their travel woes this could be a win…but it won’t be. Record: 5-3, (0-0)
    • Sun Dec. 29 UC Riverside – Highlanders top 2 scorers return but nothing else. This is a program in turmoil and they come to our house; a must win imo. Record: 6-3, (0-0)
    • Thu Jan. 2 at Montana State * - Bobcats return 3 of their top 6 scorers. Nothing like a Montana road trip to start off the in conference losses. Record: 6-4, (0-1)
    • Sat Jan. 4 at Montana * - Grizzlies only return 2 of their top 6 scorers, but they typically reload and not rebuild. Record: 6-5, (0-2)
    • Thu Jan. 9 at Northern Arizona * - Lumberjacks return 2 of their top 3 scorers including phenom Dewayne Russell. The chance for a win in Flagstaff was last season. Record: 6-6, (0-3)
    • Sat Jan. 11 at Southern Utah * - Thunderbirds only return their center Cheesman from a team that played caveman style defense. Hornets need to sweep SUU. Record: 7-6, (1-3)
    • Thu Jan. 16 Portland State * - Vikings only return their top scorer forward Aaron Moore but nothing else. Hornets should win in the Nest, but probably drop the road tilt. Record: 8-6, (2-3)
    • Sat Jan. 18 Eastern Washington * - Eagles return 3 of their top 6 scorers including forward Venky Jois. Hornets probably split this series. Record: 9-6, (3-3)
    • Thu Jan. 23 at North Dakota * - UND returns everyone and should sweep the Hornets. Record: 9-7, (3-4)
    • Sat Jan. 25 at Northern Colorado * - Bears return everyone, but need to find a ball handler. Bears probably sweep the Hornets but I’ll pick a split. Record: 9-8, (3-5)
    • Thu Jan. 30 Idaho State * - Bengals return almost everyone from a very bad team. Should have been a sweep last season, should be one this season. Record: 10-8, (4-5)
    • Sat Feb. 1 Weber State * - Wildcats return some solid players and should have no problem sweeping the Hornets. Record: 10-9, (4-6)
    • Thu Feb. 6 Northern Arizona * - This will be one of those game the Hornets could win, but find a way to lose. Record: 10-10, (4-7)
    • Mon Feb. 10 Southern Utah * - A must win. Record: 11-10, (5-7)
    • Thu Feb. 13 at Eastern Washington * - This will be one of those game the Hornets could win, but find a way to lose. Record: 11-11, (5-8)
    • Sat Feb. 15 at Portland State * - This will be one of those game the Hornets could win, but find a way to lose. Record: 11-12, (5-9)
    • Thu Feb. 20 North Dakota * - Blowout loss. Record: 11-13, (5-10)
    • Sat Feb. 22 Northern Colorado * - Close win. Record: 12-13, (6-10)
    • Thu Feb. 27 at Weber State * - Blowout loss. Record: 12-14, (6-11)
    • Sat Mar. 1 at Idaho State * - A must win. Record: 13-14, (7-11)
    • Thu Mar. 6 Montana * - A competitive loss. Record: 13-15, (7-12)
    • Sat Mar. 8 Montana State * - A surprising win. Record: 14-15, (8-12)
The time to breakthrough was last season, too many missing pieces in the front court to think the Hornets can finally make the BSC Tournament. The only saving grace is that the BSC has a lot of terrible programs so maybe, just maybe the Hornets can catch them on a really really bad night and grab some wins they otherwise typically lose. My OOC picks are more optimistic, but I think 8 BSC wins might be a little lofty if the front court doesn't come together.

Jon at bigskyhoops.com has reported that NAU's Russell transferred out. He was their lone ball handling scoring threat returning. I think that change turns that series into a possible sweep in the Hornets favor.

I guess that makes your prediction 16-13 overall and 10-10 in conference. That wouldn't be too bad considering the frontcourt uncertainty.

8/9 with today's win.
Good to know we won the official “our administration is too incompetent to build an event center” game of the year in the Rivertucky matchup.

Boring. Run down court, pass the ball around for 20 seconds then either shoot from the arch or drive and try some acrobatic move to get to the basket. Miss or foul.

Women's team is schooling the men's team in wins, excitement and buzz. With our crappo gym and castrated President, the only way this program wins is by trying something unconventional. Like running 'the system', but trying to play big boy basketball in our joke facility will always result in losses. We cant recruit the type of kid who is good at traditional DI basketball. I would rather drop the program than watch this dribble for the next five years.

I bet we go 10 and whatever and claim it is a good campaign.

Well so much for that prediction. Looking like this team won’t sniff 10 wins this season. Way to go Katz!

Good win. ISU is nowhere near as terrible as they have been the past few years. Sad to see the Hornets let ISU crawl back into the game. The Hornets ran them off the court in the 1st half, looks like they didn’t show up for the 2nd half…typical eat the ball volleyball offense used? It would be nice to see this team climb back into contention for one of the last BSCT spots.

Mills has had some solid games of late. Good to see one of the new additions contributing in the front court.

K I hope you parlayed this in Tahoe. Your payout on a $100 parlay would be in the six figure range by now.
