2013-2014 Schedule

We have already started a thread about the players and team, why not start a thread about the schedule? Other than conference play, who do we have? Will we see Utah back on the schedule? BYU in Provo, USU at the Dee. Do we visit UVU at their place this year? Road games at UTA. Do we have ORU this year or next?

Thoughts...

here is what we know so far...

http://www.weberhoops.com/schedule2014.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it should all be accurate except for the lines with the blank opponents, hence blank. dates/times to be added when known.

and here is 2015
http://www.weberhoops.com/schedule2015.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2015 doesnt show who we play in big sky since it is unknown; we cant play everyone twice. this is all because of idaho joining.

Wow! We really don't know much about our OC games. You can bet that there will be at least one money game on the road, and that we will try to get into one pre-season tournament. Utah is at least three to four years from getting strong enough to want to play us. Brackett Busters is toast. We will continue to have trouble getting any good teams to want to come into our house and get their clocks cleaned. One or two patsies will always be on our OC schedule. In truth, our hope for salvation is for the BSC to get stronger. That is really the frustrating part. We can only hope. :coffee:

First, why is it that Utah can take a break from playing in-state schools when they suck, but when Weber was down the Cats couldn't, or BETTER stated, wouldn't. I have no respect for LK, Dr. Hill, and the Pukes. Cowards!! I say we don't play them ever again, unless they agree to a home and home contract.

Next, Coach has done a pretty good job since coming to Weber of having the Cats in some type of preseason tournament. I wouldn't doubt that he gets Weber in at least one. The Cats were in a preseason tournament last year, but Wyoming, decided for whatever reason to dis-invite us. But I like the odds of Rahe getting a tournament deal created. I know there might be some on this board who will disagree with me but I wouldn't mind playing in the Cheese Classic again. I like playing USU twice a year anyway. I know we would have beaten them in Ogden. Hell, if we could be consistent shooting free throws Weber would have won in Logan.

Finally, we know that SJSU, BYU, USU, UVU, and at least one beat will be on our OOC next fall.

i would answer that with 1. i dont know if we can go undefeated in ooc. since we have never done that before i would say no. 2. would we be ranked? yes. because if we went 9-0 there is no reason we would lose a big sky game, we would host the tourney with a 29-0 record. :-P

Will we be the best team is state this year? Can we finally get a win against BYU t their place? Can we win the imaginary Bucket this year? Would you guys rather beat BYU at their place, or win a first round NCAA game?

I would be thrilled with an 8-1 start to the season. With who we know we will play and who we think will likely be on the schedule, I would expect at least 2 or 3 losses. I would much rather have 4 or 5 tough OOC games on the schedule than a string of patsies. We usually have a mixture of tough and easy games in the preseason. The tough games really prepare you for conference play and you have a chance to win a high profile game or two and a loss doesn't hurt you that bad. A breather or two can give everyone a chance to play and feel good about themselves. As a fan, the easy games give us a chance to see what the future starters might have to offer. This year we will have a couple of players, who would start for most BSC teams, who will be 10th or 11th in the rotation and may not play at all in some games. Our second team would beat many of our leagues first string, and I want to see them play. :thumb:

I think it is more likely that we run the table in conference than go undefeated OOC. Winning at BYU is always tough and they will be good next year. I want to see us play at an A-10 school again. Why not travel to Air Force or East Carolina? What about working a deal with a few Missouri Valley teams. I hate non D-1 games. It does very little for the team. Put 1 on the schedule as an exhibition game and then play real schools. Who cares if we have less OOC home games. We know we will have 10 conference games.

I think the challenge is to find teams that will host Weber, given that we have had decent success on the road in the past. Typically, the OOC games on the road are money games for Weber. Home teams don't like it when they get beat on their own floor after they paid to get the opponent there ( Dayton for example this year). I heard Air Force wants nothing more to do with the Cats. ECU would likely not pay to get WSU to North Carolina.

This complicates scheduling a lot. Weber has to pay the non d-1 opponents to get home games, and struggles to find D1 teams that will schedule us on the road, much less do a home and home game set.

Maybe there is still a surprise in store. The Basketball Travelers website had a section for colleges to post "games wanted" maybe we can find one or two that could be good for the team.

As was stated earlier, I hope the Wildcats can get into a beginning of season tournament. Were supposed to play 4 games in Wyoming's tourney last year, but got un-invited by the host school.

Last comment: saw that the NCAA has changed rules for practices starting this fall. Teams will still only get 30 days of practice, but can start as early as 42 days prior to opening of the season. Will allow teams to start Midnight Madness practices more easily if they want.

So it is for sure that we wont be seeing Oral Roberts again till 2015? Like the few games we have had with them, maybe we can get another little series going with them after thier "contracted" return to Ogden.

Will Weber play any other Mountain West Schools other than USU? most likely on the road.

Will probably play at a Pac 12 school as a money game, and will probably probably play a WCC team also most likely on the road Maybe St. Mary's again.

Be sweet to play some of our CIT tournament foes again, Cal Poly, A.Force, UNI and ECU.

Dont care to ever see Utah on our schedule again unless its a yearly home and home series, and even then Im not sure. Dont have a lot of love for the red team to the south.

I wonder why Air Force feels that way? It's not like thier players or fans were mistreated here???

Same reason Utah won't play us. It's a loss for them where ever the game is played and those coaches wabt to keep their jobs. We are really fortunate to have the tradition with USU and YBU. We once had that tradition with Utah, then they chickened out on us. We need to find teams in our own situation and develop home and home contracts. Start some new traditions. I really don't want to see more than two patsies on the schedule in any given year. :coffee:

Weber is in the Big Sky, not that I don't like our conference, I do, but the Sky, especially as of late, hasn't been doing that great. So, if your conference isn't that great, RPI wise, you don't get the best competition, especially if you are the best team in the conference. Now if you are Sac State or ISU, yeah, a lot of teams will pay handsomely to get you to come to their place. DI competition is always better than DII or NAIA.

Problems:
1. Weber is an extremely solid and good program.
2. Weber has an amazing home record and the Dee is not a place a lot of teams want to come to visit.
3. Weber doesn't have any money (Catcat you need to donate more) to pay DI teams to come visit.
4. Have I mentioned that it is virtually a loss if you visit the Dee. Unless it is a championship game. LOOOL wow that was very bengalhater of me.
5. The Sky has a terrible RPI.
6. Weber will even have a hard time getting money games after beating Dayton, UNI, and Oral at their places last year.

I really think some sort of challenge between the Big West, WCC, or Summit vs. Sky would be pretty cool sometime in December or the end of Feb to replace the bracket buster. I also like the idea of having the instate schools having to contract home and homes become a legal statute or the Utes lose state funding. They think they are a private school, why not take away all their funding so that they can truly be one. Lets see how long they survive without state funding...you and I paying for LK's salary. If they are receiving funding or being subsidized by the state then the state needs to make it mandatory that the Utes have to play each STATE school (BYU is not included it is private) each year. I do have a lot more respect for the Zoobies than the Utes...Good or Bad the Y will play Utah State and Weber State. That is called manning up. Something the Utes don't know how to do.

it is very exciting time to be a wsu fan. of course i would have rather won the cit title game but it is something to hang your hat on as a mid major school to have those road wins at oral, northern iowa and dayton.

can't wait for next year.

we will have legitimate odds of winning 2 home games against mwc foes. that would be a big accomplishment for any team in the big sky conference to do. then we go to uta. if we coudl get that done that would be a great road win for us. the new wac isnt the old wac or even the older wac or even the older older wac but really any road win is great to get.

i think we could have a really good ooc record next year. maybe even better than 2012-13. from the tentative schedule as of right now i only see one for sure loss. at byu. we have never won there and i dont think our 5 will be beating their 8 in 2014.

I thought that UTA was now a member of the Sun Belt. I know it is really hard keeping track of all the conference jumping going on right now. but yes, a win @ UTA would be great and two home wins against MW teams would be awesome.

but agreed...winning at the Y is virtually impossible; I'm just hoping the Cats can get a win in Utah County against UVU. As for winning at the Marriott Center (named after a Weber State alum), the Cats have come close in the past, but it hasn't been close for some time. However, this fall the Y isn't as good as they have been the past two years. If there is a chance to get them at home, it might be this year. They have a HELL of an awesome recruiting class coming in, but most of those players are leaving for missions right away, other than Eric Mika (weird that he isn't), and they get that guy from Provo High, Collingsworth I believe, back. They signed a couple of JCs this spring, highlighted by SLCCs Skyler Halford who was a walk on at USU before his mission. What I'm getting at is that Weber could have an edge in talent and depth over the Y. We did last year too, but allowed Davies to have the game of the century against us. Oh the Zone and missed free throws. Yet, beating a team with 8 on the floor is ALWAYS tough.

According to this site, WSU is actively looking for games. I have only scrolled through once, but I have seen that we are trying to get in a exempt tourney, willing to travel to any time zone to play, and are trying to find someone to start a home/home series. We are even willing to begin the h/h on the road, something the other teams looking for games don't mention. I hope we can land some good games this year, home or away...

Also interesting that UofU is looking for a fourth team for their tourney in SLC, so far they have Grand Canyon and Lamar committed.

We should somehow get in that tournament, just to embarrass Utah at their own place! Im sure they will find a NAIA school to fill the void....

Both Grand Canyon and Lamar are capable of beating the Mutes. They better go after Dixie State so that they can get at least one win.
