2013 Baseball

Hornets rally for 4 runs in the 8th inning and the bullpen closed out the game as the Hornets sweep the farm extension with a 4-3 win yesterday afternoon. The win gives this program back to back 30 win seasons. 8-)
Down 3-0 entering the eighth, Sacramento State received a leadoff single up the middle from Scotty Burcham and a soft line drive from Dane Fujinaka to begin the inning. Those hits ended the day for UCD starter Spencer Henderson who gave way to Robert Parucha.

Parucha forced a fly out to start his outing before Nathan Lukes singled to left field to drive in Burcham. Chris Lewis followed with a double which one-hopped against the left field wall to tie the game. Fujinaka easily scored on the play but it was Lukes, who ran through a stop sign at third base and dodged the tag at the plate, that provided the tying run.

"I thought we had one out and (Andrew) Ayers and (Justin) Higley coming behind and knew it was going to be a close," said Christiansen. "Lucky for us, he ran through it, had a good slide and the guy missed him."

Baseball stays hot and knocks off Pacific on the road.
STOCKTON, Calif. – Kyle Moses had three hits, including the second of back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth inning to back Zach Morgan’s strong start and help Sacramento State to a 3-1 win at Pacific on Tuesday night.

The Hornets improved to 33-20 overall and are now 11-2 in midweek games. The Tigers fell to 13-34.

Morgan earned his sixth win of the season (6-2) after lasting 8.1 innings and allowing a run on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Sutter McLoughlin entered with runners on first and second with one out and proceeded to strike out his first batter before getting a flyout to end the game for his 17th save.
