2013 EWU Recruiting Class of 17

Great job by the coaches putting together a really impressive class once again. It will be interesting to see what positions some of these guys play. Hoffman and Gall both played receiver in high school but I can easily see Gall at outside linebacker and Hoffman at corner. Also WOW does Martin look like he could be a game-changer. That kid is an absolute load to take down based on his game film.

luckyintheorder,
Thanks for the film of Joe Douglas. Here is hoping all of our Recruits Grades are where they should be. As of now, I think Martin is the only one, I could be wrong. I am so happy to know that we have the learning facility for our Players that needs extra help. Some of us need that ever later in life.

Must keep up with our Coaches, we are supposed to hold a "Walk-On Camp" sometime soon. Surely would like to be there and see who turns out. Again thank you for the Joe Douglas Film. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

luckyintheorder,
Tapes of Andre Lino, Matt Sommer, are good to see our Recruits. I enjoyed watching all of them. Coaches did an outstanding job Recruiting these young men. Coach said that a few of them is still 17 years of age, this will be great for a graduated step in the right direction. Hoping there grades are in the area where they should be or better. Thanks. Vic Wallace

Highlights help show what they may be capable of today and how they may grow in the program tomorrow. Obviously, they can't tell the whole story. Coaches may have taken a couple of calculated risks with Martin and Bourne due to grades, but their upside is through the roof. Skill players all seem to be in the 4.4 -4.6 40 range, good length, multiple sport athletes. The linemen are all D-1 strong already, play with above average quickness and with aggression (Joe and Samson are particularly fast). All need to get bigger and better. Make you own evaluation. Compared to several players comitted to GT, Georgia Southern, Boise and WSU, this class holds it own on upside but I would say all made a good choice to come to a program where they have a year or two to develop into the player they will ultimately be.

Sorry for droning on, just can't watch the annointed one on TV tonight. Might rewatch EWU-SHSU or something.

Can't wait to go over the whole roster during Spring Ball. 2011 and 2012 had some real great players and it will be interesting to see how those players are shaping up :-)

Yep, two schollie Qb's on the roster, but perhaps the kid who was a walk-on this past season earned a schollie, he's supposed to be pretty good. Next year we will probably have to sign a couple of QB's with Vitto graduating.

I like this class a lot. I'm not overly concerned with pounds right now for those guys who project as Offensive Lineman, especially for tackle. Athleticism and length is way more important, and it looks like we've got that. I think Roos was only like 240 pounds when he came as a Freshman. Not a big deal unless you are looking for those kids to make an immediate impact, which I don't think is the case here since we have a lot of depth on the O-Line.

Hey Ranger, was Jordan West the walk-on? I see him on the roster but didn't remember him from last year's class. Highlights below.

His own website from last year.

So now my older son, Erick, is also going to Eastern, after playing two years of baseball at Columbia Basin. He still has that fire in his belly to play football, so is going to take a shot at walking on this spring. His younger brother, Todd, has been encouraging, however not sugar coating the workouts by any means, and is a bit anxious to see how big brother can hang with the guys. Erick is very athletic, 6'4", 230 ,runs a 4.6, and has good hands and feet. Played OT in high school only because they didn't have a tight end, and outside linebacker on D, as well as deep snapper, which he has been practicing at. It would be fun to someday maybe see both of them on the field at the same time. Who knows? Just another experience to look forward to.

Can't wait for the spring game!!!!

luckyintheorder,
Jordan West did walk on last year, and he will be very good, I saw a lot of him last year, and he looks very good. I am glad to see that he came back, his friend that was here with him, Bowe Merin, left. He also look great in practices. Here is hoping Jordan stays. Vic

loloman,
Haven't been doing to much blogging, kind of laying low. Put a few blurps on now and then. Will be looking for Eric this year. Looked at the game with SHSU, after the game Todd look so frustrated, as the rest of the team. Todd looks very good on Defense. Spoke to him a few times last year, remembered he told me he loves hitting, instead of being hit.  :thumb: :thumb:

Here is hoping you and your family had Great Holidays, as for family, we thank the man above for all of us still being here with each others. Little tired most of the time, think it is from aging. ;) As long as these knees holds me up, I will continually be on the move. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Check with Todd, see if he knows when walk-ons will be permitted. They are supposed to have a class in the near future. Take care. Vic

To All,
We talked about Joe Douglas, Recruit coming in this year. My friend called me this morning, and stated the young man is also a "Hoopster". He stated that Joe dropped in 30 something points on a local High School. Remember on of the Coaches stated he thinks "he Joe Douglas will be the sleeper". Vic

loloman,
Saw both of your sons yesterday. Todd was getting ready to leave the Locker Room, Eric was in the line getting ready to see Coach working with the Athletes, along with 36 others. Glad I went out to see them, so happen, about 4 worked with my son Vic Jr. in High school. He teaches the Athletes how to build up their Agility, speed, etc Even met a young man from Gonzaga Prep High School, his dad played here in 1985 next to Ed Simmons , who later played with Washington Redskins for about 8 years, "Big Ed" as he was known, played Offense Line. Eric seems as if he is very good condition, he looked very buffed.

We even have Athletes here as far away from Atlanta, GA. Athletes weight were also taken. They will be back on Tuesday 3pm, for their workouts, etc, I will be there along with my daughter. Have a great day. Vic Wallace

For All Who Wonder When I Do Sleep!
Got back from Eastern Washington University, yesterday about 5:45pm, kind of tired, ate some supper, got in bed about 7pm, crashed for a few hours, got up about 2am, here I am on the computer. Will be crashing in a few minutes. Get up about 7am, take my daughter to work and back home. Vic Wallace

Hey Vic,

I spoke with Erick last night, and he said that he had a chance to talk with you. He has really been working hard to get ready for the tryouts next week. I am hoping everything goes well and he gets a shot. Having played baseball the past 2 years, he has stayed in really good shape. Just hasn't hit anyone in a few years, which I am sure he is anxious to do. Thanks for the updates on the team. It is really appreciated.

Hope he has gotten over those hamstring injuries, and will try for the team again. Spoke with a young man yesterday at Friday Night Lights yesterday, his couldn't remember his name, he went to school with Todd, he does not play FB, he got a Scholarship to Wyoming, he spoke highly of Todd. Give the family our best, and have a great weekend, and great 4th of July. Vic Wallace

Vic,

Todd has really built up this off season, working hard, and eating lots. Erick is still battling the hamstring injury. He's going in to the trainer tomorrow. Had a chance to run over to EWU this weekend to spend a night with them. Was good to see them. Todd's been enjoying helping out with the camps this past week. Saw some of the high school coaches from the "old days"...Ha..
I drove by the stadium and saw some of the progress on the upper parking lot. Looking good. That will add some needed parking. Going to be heading back over to Spokane for the 4th, so I can be guaranteed some clear skies for the fireworks. Never know in Seattle. Hope all is well.
