2013 Predictions

I know it is still VERY early to make predictions on the upcoming season, but heck I'm bored.

So lets make our predictions for the upcoming Weber State football season.

1. Stephen F. Austin- W I think we get at least one win vs the Southland this year

2. @ Utah- L When will these games end?

3. @ Utah State- L When will these games end? pt. 2

4. @ McNeese State- L Hopefully we are more competetive this time around

5. Sacramento State- W If there is one team we can beat in Ogden it's Sac State

6. @ Eastern Washington- L We seem to play these guys tough every time in Cheney, but they are tough to beat there

7. @ Cal Poly- L Can the Cats win on the road? Maybe not with this slate.

8. Montana State- L Another team we play tough year in and year out but can never seem to beat

9. @ Portland State- W/L Best chance at a road win, and we have had PSU's number as of late, will this year be any different?

10. Southern Utah- W Love this new rivalry, and the Wildcats re-take Stewart Stadium.

11. @ Montana- L Face it, we never win in Missoula.

12. Idaho State- W Can anyone say 11 in a row?

3-9, 4-8 or 5-7 I'm leaning to 4-8 with wins over SFA, CSUS, SUU and ISU

I think the Cats can win all of their home games. MSU is gonna be tough, but I think the Cats can pull off the upset. If nothing else, I have a feeling our team is going to compete in every game. Last season the Cats were close to wins against EWU, UM, and Sac. Gotta finish games!! Learn how to win. I'm hoping Sears and Co. can figure out how to do that. 5-7, best case 6-6.

I don't think McNeese will be as good as they were last year. They were a very SR laden team, but it'll be very hard pulling off the W in LA. I hope we can find that game streaming online.

I'm saying 4 wins. Against Sac, PSU, SUU, and ISU. With a good chance to win vs Cal Poly but probably falling short. Could fall short vs PSU as well. But I'm saying 4-8.

The SUU forum is :dead: so here I am. The rivalry that is developing with Weber State is gonna be good but Sad to say Weber St. Will not get the victory this season coming. Suu is now in the post Brad Sorenson era but with that will come more unity and reliance on the team as a whole to win! Not to make excuses but we were flat coming off some big wins and definitely didn't show up for the game although we had a shot at the end. On to the new season . Our spring game was a success the jucco qb , Aaron cantu definitely established himself as the front runner and with the 3,500 , passing yards last season he's putting the ball were he needs to so the our passing attack should be pretty lethal against some less than stellar secondaries in the Big sky. We are still looking for some rb's , we have a good young group but the coaches should have got them some reps last season so we are a little shaky there. Our defense is going to surprise everyone this year on how physical they play, our secondary will be returning all the starters plus some players who saw considerable time. The lb core will be very active this season with Zac browning freshman new comer of the year returning. The d-line will be good and so the defense will be the catalyst to lead the charge this season. so weber fan please explain to me why you guys beat Suu!

Sorry jeffandy;

It used to be that the surest way to get yourself fired from coaching at WSU was to lose to ISU. While that may still be true, there is a new piece of forbidden fruit in the land. That would be a loss to SUU. A coach might survive one loss in a season to SUU. He would not survive two losses in a row. It's just a fact of life at WSU. SUU, you are still the little brother on the block! Hang in there, we are still pulling for you in all other games.

Old runner, it's always good to support your team and yes it is early , real early to be predicting wins and losses but in the spirit of some good ole smack talk you have not really offered me any legitimate explanation on why Suu gets beat by the Wildcats! That line of logic you offered will simply not do :blah: . Your cats have lost quite a few of its players and we gotcha their last time when we were a Div 2, team. We lost are Qb , a good one and are Dt another good one :both in the NFL, outside of that we picked up a Qb that should be able to work with a veteran Wr core and also on the defensive side of the ball it's gonna be something special to see with all the starters except three coming back , ouch !!!! anyway it will be a good game I'm only 15 minutes from your stadium so even better for me !! Anyway get back to me with some football facts and not sentiment. I won't gloat when we get the win and I'll be rooting for you guys before and after we spank that behind

Well hello jeffandy!! Welcome to the board. Gotta say, playing SUU never really seems like a rivalry game to me. To me it is more of a brotherhood game. After Weber, I'm a huge fan of the T-Birds and I always want to see them do well. UVU is like the idiot cousin nobody likes to talk to.

So, football talk. Well, one reason why I think the Cats will win this season is because of what happened last season. SUU had one of their most talented and deep teams and the Cats, who weren't deep or by that point in the season when the Cats and T-Birds hooked up (we lost a lot of skill position players to injury, our receiving corp had been decimated by John L and injury) talented, and the Cats still won the game on your field. That is enough for me to say, that the Cats will win. Weber will be deeper and better than last season, and regrettably, SUU isn't as talented or deep as you were last year. And really, the Cats didn't lose to much from last season; three defensive starters (James, Pletcher, and White who missed a lot of games due to injury) and three offensive starters (Hoke, Timeteo, and Tuckett didn't really start the entire season, but was our best RB. Bo Bolen will definitely pick up the slack). Hoke was a solid QB for the Cats, but after so many coaching changes in a two year period, I think it really got to him. Weber has a lot more depth than last year and has a line that only got better and better that only needs to replace one guy. Defensively, even out SRs, who started didn't play a ton. Weber didn't lose to much, but gained a lot more and most importantly, we have an OC who knows how to call a game. Pflugrad is a legit coach, recruiter, and offensive guru. He will get the most out of his guys. And we all know how good Weber's defense is. It'll only get better.

By the way...SUU hasn't been DII for a long time. How could you, a T-Bird, make that mistake. Shameful.

I am much more optimistic about this year than last year. Sorensen was a GREAT player, but looking back, he forced the action too much and it hurt us at key moments. Our new QB is going to have a veteran receiving core, MONSTROUS O-line and the best defense I've ever seen at SUU. If our QB can manage the game, and our defense plays up to potential, this should be a great year for us.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we won a conference championship and beat UNLV at their place in the past 3 years. Because of those events, we won a lot of recruiting battles. Those upgraded players are finally developed to a point that they will have major impacts on the team.

It is interesting that SUU is still not considered a rivalry game for some of you. I hope your players feel the same way, because I know that we have a very healthy "hate" for our purple brothers up North. I think our 2 teams are very similar on paper, but whoever brings more passion to the field will generally win these instate games.

I think the SUU/WSU rivalry is great for the state. Here's to SUU being 11-0 and WSU being 10-1 going into the playoff selection!

I think it is a rivalry, and the players do to, I remember reading about how a lot of the Wildcat players hated SUU, Rivalries are what make College football so awesome, and I am glad that Weber actually has a competetive rival now, ISU has always been our long time rival, but I think SUU will grow to be the bigger rivalry.

It's good for both Weber and SUU to have an instate/inconf rival.

I agree that SUU/WSU needs to grow into a UM/MSU style rivalry within the Big Sky conference. WSU/ISU makes sense from the years of tradition, but the Big Sky has dubbed NAU our "rival", which makes no sense. I consider WSU our biggest rival within conference, and look forward to years and years of bad blood between us!

I hope that the administrations of both Weber and SUU could do something to make this game an event, give it a name, a traveling trophy, something. Trust me there is plenty of hate between the two programs to make this a great rivalry, adding to it would only make it better.

The NAU/SUU rivalry does make some sense, for the fact that SUU and NAU are so close and have played each other in years where Weber and SUU wouldnt play each other. I do think Weber and SUU will be a bigger rivalry than SUU/NAU but it is another good rivalry that adds to the conference.

5 of Weber's first 7 games on the road including two straight against Utah and Utah State. Your schedule maker deserves a kick in the junk.

Purpleforlife , you are right !!! shameful that I as a fan made the statement I did about SUU being a D2, team previously. Although I'm a new SUU fan there's no excuse for that , I don't hate the Wildcats I'm only 15 min from the Stadium and will be there when we whip that behind, we will just have too much for you my purple brother this season  I root for Weber when they don't play SUU but this year you guys will fall . You guys still have some coaching issues to get worked out and that's not going to get worked out this season.

Jeffandy;

SUU may occasionally get a win against WSU. It won't happen this year and probably won't happen more than 10% of the time. That may sound harsh to you, but that is the reality of the situation. SUU has a long ways to go to build to the point where you can get more wins than that. I hope that your program does get better and that ours does too. We are just a little ahead of you at this point. Yes, we had some turmoil last year, with all of the coaching turnover. Don't interpret that as a weak program. We still have quality athletes and have solidified our coaching ranks. We may not yet be a championship team, but we will be much, much improved over last year.

My prediction. It will be a close game in the first half and then Weber will pull away to a comfortable lead in the second half. As long as SUU throws in the towel, we will take the pressure off in the fourth quarter. :thumb:

Old runner, great commentary in regards to the defense of your team, and well you should be confident in your program. I in know way meant to imply that your program is weak in the sense that it is not a good program but you are still on the road to recovery , SUU team is truly going to be more formidable this season than in years past ! I am so amped by what our defense will do this year to opposing Big Sky opponents I can't wait. the experience that we have coming back is just fantastic , the defense will be very physical experienced and the units cohesion will be quite a bit more than what existed last season. The offense will be better in regards to not depending on the Qb so much! Aaron cantu will surprise the conference with what he will bring to the field this season having everyone back in the receiving core will be a plus!! A better run game will help balance the team out offensively. The defense will be the heart of the team this season though and I can guarantee you Weber state will not cruise to a second half victory ! Yes Suu still has a way to go building a solid program year in and out but trust me this year they will command respect and make those teams that overlook them pay dearly!!! Can't wait it will be the shortest drive this season for me to watch my T-birds get a victory :willybs:
