2013 prognosticators wanted

OK - Call me crazy, but i think that IF Nigel can solve the problem at cornerback, psu could run the table
this year. with the exception of Cal. Think about it, we were in all of the games except msu, right
up to the time that the other teams figured out that we had no defensive backs. our offensive numbers
were good and they should be better this year. The 19 or 20 freshman that played last season plus all of last
years red-shirted recruits will improve the team.
cal poly- lost their star running back
montana- has taken a step backwards and is suspect
e. wash.- will be tough- esp away but i think that their wr crew graduated
the remaining schedule is made up of teams psu should be able to beat

think i'm nuts?? oh well go big or go home!

I would love to see us run the table, but I'm going to have to throw a wrench into this.

We've never won in Missoula since moving up to D1 in 1996. While I'd love to see us come out of there with a win, logic tells me that it will be an L on the schedule.
 
You guys (except PDXMACMAN) have confirmed my fears....That I may be overly optimistic. I'm looking at 7 wins. I agree with PDX that our offense should be at least as good as last season. Our core receivers will be younger, but we were without Monahan for quite a few games last year, and frankly when he did come back he wasn't as much a threat as previous to his injuries. As some of you have eluded to, it's going to come down to defense. Our guys will need to make some stops. I am hopeful that the team chemistry is a little better this season, which can win a game or two you shouldn't. 7 wins, there I said it.

OK, OK. I'm with you GG. Not only should our corners and safeties be improved, but if Coach Hill does actually employ that 3-4 defense, we have enough very strong and athletic LBs to wreak some havoc. I am cautiously optimistic for a 7 win season and a shot at the playoffs.
 
I am very optimistic. I am leaning towards GG and PDX and thinking that the team could do well. With improvement on the defensive side, I think we see 8 wins. With losses at Cal, Montana, and probably to Sac State. We were close to Poly last year and they've lost a lot, we avenge close losses to UND and SUU. I think we take it to EWU as well, Padron isn't there to burn us again. The experience the young guys got last season will pay off this season. Is it September yet?
 
I want to qualify my post a bit. I'm comfortable even at this early date that we will win 5, but very optimistic about winning 7-8 games and maybe more. Team chemistry should be much better. Last year there wasn't the senior leadership we needed and that combined with the inexperience of some younger players left us without the ability to close out tough games. Next year we have much more experience and I believe better chemistry.

On defense, I'm looking for more discipline in the backfield and increased pressure from a blitzing defense up front. On offense, I'm looking for a few things, a QB that reads better and can get the ball out earlier and a playmaker that can break open the big plays that can turn the table on close games. Up front I think we are still good and maybe better than last year if we stay healthy. Our backs come back in full and we have some speed coming in as well so that should be a strong point if we stay healthy. I worry about our receivers and hope someone steps up to keep the box from getting stacked every game.

Assuming that we beat Humbolt and UC Davis, I think the Cal Poly game will show what we're made of. They are a relatively young team as well and should be just as good if not better than last year. The good news is we play them at home. A win there gives us momentum, a loss sends us on back to back road games and we can't afford to lose both of those. We should win 4 out of the last 5 games and maybe 6 of the last 7 so winning at least 3 of the first 6 games is very important. Look for at least .500 going into the bye week.
 
You guys do realize that this is a REALLY young, inexperienced team. I think the most veteran player is Justin Lilley.
 
You're right. According to the roster, we have 17 seniors, 15 juniors, 23 sophomores, and 36 freshmen (including redshirts). That's a lot of freshmen and sophomores.
 
Jordan Johnson, the Montana star QB, who was accused of rape and expelled from the university, was
found not guilty and reinstated to the team. just in time for us to play them! OH BOY!
