He lost a year with a torn ACL in his senior season. Had much interest before the injury from plenty of D1 schools. After the injury we could not even get a preferred walk-on offer. He walked on at U of Ariz in the spring after he was medically cleared to play. In the spring game he was 3-19yds.
AZ has the nations leading rusher in Ka'deem Carey and the #2 Jenkins transferred back after a few months at Wash State.
He just saw himself too far down on the depth chart as a walk-on. There is a soon to be Jr on the team that has been on the squad 3 seasons and has yet to get a carry. He said he did not want to be in that situation.
We got the release to contact other schools. Had offers from 4 colleges but all far from Cali.

So.....here we are.

Did he have any interest from SDSU? The Aztecs are my favorite FBS team, Hornets my favorite FCS team. I'm wondering, because the Aztecs produced a great RB in Ronnie Hillman (NFL-Denver) and currently developing Adam Muema. Curiosity. Anyway, glad he was released and he's a hornet now :thumb: .

Just an FYI, I'm neither from Sac or SD. I'm in L.A.

No interest from SDSU. The recruiter told me he had no room there on 2 occasions. That was enough for me. My son will make all those who passed on him sorry. He is a gamer. Been playing since he was 9 yrs old, never missed a game until injury.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. The highlights video of Rochon is explosive. Looking forward to seeing him in green and gold.

Anyone notice OL Adam Murray (6'8" 315 lbs) on the roster? He started at Santa Rosa JC for two years then didn't play football in 2011 and 2012. Wonder if it's an academic or injury issue, but looks like he's expected to play this year.

Good size kid - looks like he graduated in 2009...Rancho Cotate. Looks like he was on Sac States radar back then as well. Possibly a NQ out of HS or just an experience thing. Only started playing his freshman year in HS.

My guess is that either his lack of experience or mobility is a reason he isn't off to a bigger program. Hoping he can help add some depth and push for a starting job...with WAC disappearing we are getting bigger up front....AWESOME....

FYI...Most big schools look for the 6'5"+ kid in HS that is extremly agile and athletic vs the kid that is 300+. Easier to add 35lbs of muscle to a 6'7" 260 kid who can put his elbows on the rim vs trim 35lbs from a 6'7" 335 kids who likes to put his elbows on the dinner table instead....this came from Bosie State coach recruiting our area...made me laugh

Welcome to the nLH9!!!!

Did your son redshirt for the Wildcats last year? or did he go to school part time and Grey Shirt?

Is he coming to Sac this Fall as an invited Walk On? or transfer recruit?

Hope you both enjoy your time here...again welcome!!!

Thanks again.
He was not cleared by doctor to participate in the fall of 2012 because of his knee surgery. He joined the team in January and participated in the spring. Prior to joining the team, the #2 back, Daniel Jenkins, had transferred to Washington State for promise of more playing time for his Senior season. Ka'Deem Carey is the number one back and led the nation in rushing last year. Carey with 303 carries and Jenkins with 67 as the #2 back. The #3 back had 20 carries. Jenkins did not like it up there at Wash State, and returned in the summer. There is a junior on the team that has yet to have a single carry in a game, and he has been on the squad 3 years. There just was not a opportunity to get some PT, and with him coming in as a walk on, the out of state tuition does not make sense for him to ride the pine. He is listed as a Redshirt only because he lost that year.
He is coming to Sac this fall as an invited Walk On. He had 4 offers from other schools in the Midwest and Ohio Valley, but he wanted to be closer to home.

Ron Ussery, a 6'2", 235 lb. sophomore defensive end drop-down from Fresno State is showing on the Hornets roster. Ussery had offers from Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico State and Sacramento State. Good to have more depth on the d-line.
