Hoping for big things from this team!

Welcome LH9. I'll presume that your son transferring to Sac St during the summer means he's a JUCO player. Which JUCO is he at?

Yup, born and raised there, recently moved back to Sac for an employment opportunity. I actually played 2 years of varsity ball at Lincoln. I was a junior when we made our run through the D3 playoffs and into the championship at the Q in the 2000-01 season. Damn that was too long ago… :grizo1:

Ahh...that's whassup. I too went to Lincoln, but I am quite a bit older than you!

My son went to Francis Parker school in San Diego. Pretty good recruit until a torn ACL in his senior season.
A born winner almost everywhere he has played and I am hoping he can contribute to make that green mean Hornet even stronger!

Hornet Pride ya know;)

Welcome aboard, Lincoln. Glad to have you here. I spent quite a bit of time in San Dog while I was in the Navy, and still like listening to The Mighty 1090 on the nightly skip-signal up here in Lodi, about half an hour or so south of Sac. I'm a HUGE fan of "The Coach" John Kentera, and picked up the Padres as my second MLB team while stationed in SD.

Thank u SuperH....glad to be part of a new fam.
San Diego is the place to be!.....ahhhh...the Mighty 1090, it streams from my desktop frequently...
We love our Padres and our Chargers even more. Did you hear we got Teo? j/k

Will I have options to see Sac games on the web? We have no television coverage down here in San Diego. We have Roots Sports Network, but not a game scheduled. The former ESPN360 is an option?? Is the streaming of games on the web poor quality?

My son is a transfer from U of Arizona. We had coverage of games on Pac12Network there.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

We got shafted with no Root coverage this year. Last year we had the Montana State game on the tube and I had the pleasure of watching it with some bodies at U31.

All games will be available online for free on Big Sky TV (link found under the “multimedia” link on the header of the new Hornetsports site). All that is required is a valid email address for registration. The quality is hit or miss, all depending on who is hosting but at a minimum its free video streaming. Audio is also found for free. Also note that some programs have regional Fox sports agreements so you might be able to find them on some satellite station somewhere (NAU & UND).

My sister just wrapped up her track and XC career at UofA. Tucson wasn’t too bad of a place to visit, and not that bad of a drive from SD.

Some good looking highlights there. What brought your son to Sac?

At RB we return (#8) Graham (he’s been banged up in spring camp) who had a very good season last year but I think it is up for grabs after that. (#9) Coleman showed promise in his limited reps last season and (#4) Warren saw some reps in the spring game due to Graham’s injury. From what I have seen the coaches do a good job or rotating in players so if your son is taking care of business I think he will get some PT. OC Peterson has shown that he likes to throw it to RB’s coming out of the backfield which will bode well for Rochon.

As far a special teams goes I think Rochon will have a legit shot to see some returns. McCowan was our best kick returner and he graduated. (#2) Carter is the other returner who has shown promise but missed time due to a broken foot last season. The Hornets have a new ST coach so he’ll probably be looking for anyone who can make an impact.

He lost a year with a torn ACL in his senior season. Had much interest before the injury from plenty of D1 schools. After the injury we could not even get a preferred walk-on offer. He walked on at U of Ariz in the spring after he was medically cleared to play. In the spring game he was 3-19yds.
AZ has the nations leading rusher in Ka'deem Carey and the #2 Jenkins transferred back after a few months at Wash State.
He just saw himself too far down on the depth chart as a walk-on. There is a soon to be Jr on the team that has been on the squad 3 seasons and has yet to get a carry. He said he did not want to be in that situation.
We got the release to contact other schools. Had offers from 4 colleges but all far from Cali.

So.....here we are.

So he's a RS FR, correct? Roster had him listed as a SO. As per usual, SD's analysis is spot on. If he's healthy and buys in to Peterson's system, there's no reason he can't have an immediate impact. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the slot and as a returner right out of the gate. Hello bubble screens! :)

technically yes....but NCAA said they may keep him as a soph until they want to exercise the 5th year. So yes, 4 years of eligibility remaining.

Bubble screens are what he does best! A pretty good back in space with nice hands. Great KO returner. In the San Diego Section CIF record book for 99yds.
Was in a system in HS that he had to wait his turn to be the #1. Coaches always played upperclassmen. He finally got his shot and injury in non-contact practice. It has been a tough journey, but sometimes things things happen for a reason. I feel like he has a shot for immediate impact here.

“Rochon Taylor (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker) were the headliners….Taylor has flown underneath the radar thus far. All of that, however, could be changing, sooner rather than later. Once word spreads about him consistently finishing the 40-yard dash in the sub 4.5 range, scouts figure to keep a watchful eye on the 5-foot-8 running back.”

I think he will fit in just fine here. Take a look at last years stats in the first year of Peterson’s offense:

http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/fball/2012-13/teams/sacramentost?view=lineup&r=0&pos=off

4 different RB’s got carries. All 4 played in at least 7 games with the least amount of carries on the year at 19.
(#12) Safron hit 13 different receivers, 4 of whom were RB’s with the least amount of catches on the year at 1.

All in all a RB carried the ball on 292/393 (74.3%) carries and caught the ball on 58/255 (22.7%) receptions …so not counting incomplete, dropped, or intercepted passes; a RB touched the ball on 350/648 (54.0%) of the offensive plays from scrimmage. Heading into the season with question marks at TE (52/255 (20.4%) receptions), the RB’s might see even more passes headed their way this season. :ugeek:

Did he have any interest from SDSU? The Aztecs are my favorite FBS team, Hornets my favorite FCS team. I'm wondering, because the Aztecs produced a great RB in Ronnie Hillman (NFL-Denver) and currently developing Adam Muema. Curiosity. Anyway, glad he was released and he's a hornet now :thumb: .

Just an FYI, I'm neither from Sac or SD. I'm in L.A.

No interest from SDSU. The recruiter told me he had no room there on 2 occasions. That was enough for me. My son will make all those who passed on him sorry. He is a gamer. Been playing since he was 9 yrs old, never missed a game until injury.
