2013 Schedule

So with the bye week I figured it wouldn’t hurt to take a sneak peak at next year’s schedule. Wanless can schedule 12 games if he so chooses, and to be honest I hope he does. Here is what is known right now:

Week 1 – 8/31/13: @ Arizona State
Week 2 – 9/7/13: @ San Jose State
Week 3 – 9/14/13: OPEN
Week 4 – 9/21/13: OPEN
Week 5 – 9/28/13: @ Weber State*
Week 6 – 10/5/13: vs. Northern Colorado*
Week 7 – 10/12/13: vs. Northern Arizona*
Week 8 – 10/19/13: OPEN
Week 9 – 10/26/13: @ North Dakota*
Week 10 – 11/2/13: vs. Montana*
Week 11 – 11/9/13: @ Cal Poly*
Week 12 – 11/16/13: @ Portland State*
Week 13 – 11/23/13: vs. the farm extension*

We have 2 FBS money games again, and a BSC schedule that as of now looks easier than the 2012 lineup. I am not sure on the OOC game dates but I figure they will happen in the first few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if we open up with a Thursday night game (I hope not, I want to make the trip to Tempe to see that one).

Wanless needs to ink at least one more home game. It would be nice to see 6 home games but I doubt that happens. I do hope we keep to an all D-1 schedule. I have no idea what other BSC teams have open dates early in the schedule for an OOC home game, but that is who the likely 11th opponent will be. My guess would be either SUU or ISU is paid to come to Sac for a home game in weeks 3 or 4. We’ll need a home game after opening on the road for 2 straight weeks. I don’t think Wanless can be stupid enough to open the season with a lot road games again. I would love if Wanless called around to the Southland or Missouri Valley Conference (hell even a SWAC program) to schedule a home and home with someone in the FCS ranks.

If Wanless does go 12 games, the 12th will probably be a meaningless D-2 or NAIA opponent. It would be nice to see non-scholie USD on the schedule.

Anyone hear anything about who might be scheduled? :?:

After their tribute, I was thinking it would be nice to schedule a home and home with Holy Cross.

I think you HAVE TO schedule 12 games, and it should be a winnable home game against a DI foe. If we learned anything this year, I think it's that a DI schedule keeps you in the playoff picture if your take care of business.

I like the open week in week 8, but would love to see consecutive home games on 9/14 and 9/21... We would be able to span 6 weeks of the season only traveling twice.

Week 1 – 8/31/13: @ Arizona State - L (definite L)
Week 2 – 9/7/13: @ San Jose State - L (possible W)
Week 3 – 9/14/13: University of San Diego - W
Week 4 – 9/21/13: Idaho State - W
Week 5 – 9/28/13: @ Weber State* - W
Week 6 – 10/5/13: vs. Northern Colorado* - W
Week 7 – 10/12/13: vs. Northern Arizona* - W
Week 8 – 10/19/13: OPEN
Week 9 – 10/26/13: @ North Dakota* - L
Week 10 – 11/2/13: vs. Montana* - W
Week 11 – 11/9/13: @ Cal Poly* - L
Week 12 – 11/16/13: @ Portland State* - W
Week 13 – 11/23/13: vs. the farm extension* - W

8-4 (6-2)... with a strong list of returnees, we should be in the top 4-6 of the 13 team BSC next year. Get on it Dr. Wanless!!! :D

Travel costs would be crazy, but I like the idea from both a sentimental and football POV (HC is an easy DI win), we'll see what happens...

i was just thinking the same, Cross country travel would be real expensive

Well travel isn’t as bad as some of the travel we are already paying for. A quick Google search shows round trip flight from Sac to Grand Forks, ND is about $500 a person. Round trip flight from Sac to Boston is about $475 a person. Both flights have only 1 layover. Figure all the hotels, food, and shuttle service to and from the airport is a wash and the in conference game to North Dakota would run more than an OOC game at Holy Cross. Granted this doesn’t take into account any discounts that the AD might have with certain carriers but seeing as Boston is a high volume airport, I would imagine costs would always be lower than a trip to UND.

So if Holy Cross could be signed up as a home game in 2013 and then as road game in 2014; the travel expenses would balance out as we will be spending just as much to play at UND in 2013. The issue would be having too many road games in 2014 as I assume the 2 FBS games will be a regular occurence.

keep in mind the team typically charters a whole flight (allegiant i believe), so i dont think you can really compare it to individual tickets that you buy

Yeah I wasn’t sure on that. Does chartering a flight offer cost savings? Also my search was from flying out of Sac. I bet there are better deals flying across the country out of SFO.

A home and home with Holy Cross would be great especially since we have a "history" with them but have never played them. I would also like to see Southern Utah as a home game since they owe us one. We played there two years in a row.

I know I'm generally more optimistic than moste, but here goes:

Week 1 – 8/31/13: @ Arizona State - L (possible L)
Week 2 – 9/7/13: @ San Jose State - W (probable W)
Week 3 – 9/14/13: University of San Diego - W

It looks like the only western FCS programs with openings are SUU (9/21) and USDiego (9/14). Aside from those two, Wanless and Sperbeck will have to get creative on finding an 11th D-1 game. Plenty of SWAC and MEAC programs have openings early in the season, also a bunch of FCS Independents have openings as well. The problem with all of them is that they are quite a ways from Sac which I assume will make it harder to agree to a game. If a non-D1 is used to get to 11, we will schedule ourselves out of the playoffs making 2013 a wasted season.

It also looks like the SJSU and ASU games have been switched with us opening @ San Jose on 8/31 then going to ASU on 9/7.

I am hoping somebody is on the phone with Univ of San Diego for that Sept 14 date...that would be a great home/away game for the next 2 seasons. We could always get SUU for the 9/21 as long as we are home...or better yet Sam Houston for a 2 year contract. They have an opening on 10/19.

Oregon just cancelled their game with Nevada. But we should stay away from 3 FBS.
I’d rather see a 3rd FBS game than a non D-1 game on the schedule. :twocents:

Yeah I pulled up FBSschedules.com to check it out. The scary part is SJSU doesn't have us listed on their schedule. Could be something to do with all their coaching turnover though.

I'd agree, but the two FBS teams we've scheduled are going to be tough. I'm hopin for San Diego home and home.

If that's the case, you must enjoy pain.
An FBS loss and a non D-1 win are the same in the eyes of the playoff selection committee. May as well collect a paycheck if we are going to throw away a game on the schedule.
