2026 Football Schedule Thread

I am unburying this topic from misc. other threads because it's going to be a major point of discussion. At one point, FBSschedules.com showed us on the road at Oregon State and Fresno State in 2026. Obviously, everything is up in the air right now. But there's so much to consider. If we are "FBS" will a Cal State school play us at home OOC? Will we have to rely on USD, and maybe UCD and CP for home games? Do we go for big money SEC of B18 games for a couple years?

I posted this in another thread, and I think it might still make sense....

So, there will be a multitude of scheduling opportunities in the coming years as several conference will be looking for more OOC games due to realignment. I have proposed a couple 2026 schedules in other threads, but knowing we'll likely be "FCS" Indy in '26 - here's a schedule that considers other teams' open dates as of now, and the fact that FCS will allow a 12-game schedule every year now.

This schedule includes the minimum (IMO) 5 home games, includes smart (financially, reputation-wise) CA rivalry games at both FCS and FBS level, and opponents that will draw attention and recruits to our program, especially if we are competitive.

Week 0 8/24/26 - vs. UC Davis (Rivalry Game)
8/31 - BYE
9/5 - vs. U. San Diego (Could amend the 2/1 to add an additional home game for us)
9/12 - @ Fresno State (Already scheduled)
9/19 - vs. Lamar (Already scheduled)
9/26 - @SDSU (Road $ game to fill PAC-8 schedule)
10/3 - @UNLV (MWC foe, Marion returns!)
10/10 - vs. Cal Poly (CSU system special, would-be 12th game to add)
10/17 - @Colorado State (Road $ game to fill PAC-8 schedule, revenge opportunity for CSU)
10/24 - BYE
10/31 - @Nevada (MWC foe money game, drivable)
11/6 - @SJSU (MWC foe money game, drivable)
11/13 - vs. Tarleton State (Another FCS foe with FBS aspirations from UAC, which doesn't hate us, yet?)
11/20 - @Alabama (Pure money/exposure game)

I was there the last time we rolled into Corvallis and pulled the upset. Great game!

I'd like to see us buy some one and done FCS home games to pad our home schedule. Being FCS Independent gives us the potential for 12 home games every year, we should be maximizing that potential as much as possible. Credit to the montukies for taking this kind of approach with their OOC scheduling, I know people knock it but that is a boon to their bottom line and feeds into the fan experience even more.
