2014 Big Sky Tournament Watch

Run down on how things can shake out after Saturday’s games:

http://www.bigskybball.com/2014/03/big-sky-scenarios.html

I’m not buying the Hornets getting in. WSU really has nothing to play for so who knows if they play their starters for the whole game against EWU. ISU’s season is over so hard to see them showing up against PSU. Along with that help, somehow the Hornets have to get it together and knock off MSU. I just feel that this team had their shot and blew it; hard to expect anything else from this embarrassing program.

And they had a sellout crowd. How hard is it gonna be to get everyone fired up again to drink out of the firehose?

I also believe we can still get in, albeit a long shot. Since Eastern hosts Weber at 2pm, we'll know a lot by 4pm. Weber's our best hope tho, cuz I think PSU, UNC and Sac St will win, even tho Mont St beat us by 15 over there (but the Hornets play poorly at altitude and on the road). UNC/SUU starts at 5pm.

Tinkle's 3/4 court press was a great coaching move, as the Hornets came unglued and went into a first half tailspin. Montana was just too good to make up a 19 point deficit on. McKinney got into his out of control dribbling late too, that didn't help anything. If we can rebound against Mont St., we should be okay cuz they can score from underneath.

I asked Garrity's Dad before the game if the team was nervous and he said, "not anymore than usual. They are very confident and think they will win it."

I'm either going to go down with the ship or go to Ogden. I'm not givin up now.......and I know this team is not giving up either.

Weber St leading Eastern Wash 43-32 at the half as WSU scored the last 11 points.

Weber pulling away w/10m to go, 61 to 43. Go Weber!

Eastern put on a full court press and has it down to 8, 76-68 w/2:45 to go. Go Wildcats.

Weber St holds on somehow as they played lousy down the stretch, but maybe that means good things for the Hornets tonight as Eastern missed a lay-up and a three w/.8 to go and fouled Weber, who held on
82 to 78. We still have a shot now! Go Hornets!

It appears that Northern Colorado will get in as they lead by 18 in the 2nd half over hapless S. Utah.

The Hornets are four point favorites over Mt St.

#BigSkyMBB: Two games remain tonight, and here is out it looks. If Sacramento State beats Montana State, Sac State is in the tournament. If Montana State beats Sacramento State, Eastern Washington is in the tournament.
MSU has been eliminated. The Bobcats would lose a head-to-head tiebreaker at 10-10 with EWU. EWU swept the Bobcats. In a three-way tie with PSU and EWU, all three teams would have been 2-2 against each other. PSU would be the first team in based on a win over No. 1 WSU (EWU and MSU went 0-2 vs. WSU). The EWU-MSU tie then goes back to head-to-head. EWU would win the tiebreaker. Make sense?

In the words of Jim Valvano "Don't give up, Don't give up, Don't ever give up" Sac earned this win and tourney trip. Great job by the coaches and players. This team can make some noise in the tourney too. I don't know about you Kadeezy, SD, GCM and other naysayers but ........I'M GOING TO OGDEN

The Hornets came out "determined" and really pushed it; Montana St really didn't stand a chance. Yeah, thanks to Weber St for taking out Eastern - that was what we needed.

It was fun to see the little used seniors, et al get to play and score too at the end; the place was hopping with another big crowd.

Don't unpack your luggage.

Congrats to the Hornets for making the BSCT (both men and women)!!!

Sorry I took so long to post this, my wife had one hell of a time gluing my head back together when I heard the news that we made the BSCT.

Well PGP you called it. Just when it looked like things were looking like a typical Hornet athletics outcome, things finally break our way and the Hornets take advantage of an opportunity and handle business. I wish I could go but it’s not in the cards. Hopefully this is the first of many appearances in the coming years. Enjoy the trip PGP and cheer as loud as you can for the Hornets. :thumb:
