2014 QB Compitition

I know, I'm bored and we're still about a month away from Spring ball. But may as well start the conversation about who might win the starting QB spot. So far we've got:

Sean Rubalcaba, Brock Berglund, Berglund JR., and possibly Jyron Walters and Chad Jeffries.

Who's the very early favorite to win the spot? I've got to give it to Ruby because he's had two years in the system. That being said Berglund can play. I don't know what happened at his past 20 other schools but he's a hell of a player. I like Walters play too, if he can get his grades straight. I love QB competitions!!!!

Competition for QB1 will only make the Bears better. I like Ruby too. I think he brings a stronger run dynamic to the table that our offense can surely use. I was impressed with Walters during the spring game. The kid was obviously new to the system and playing off of pure instinct, yet he made some pretty good plays. He's a baller. Too early to tell about the retreads (Jeffries and Brock Berglund), but I think the younger Berglund has some future potential.

It seems all of them are more agile than Lobato. Seth reminded me of Drew Bledsoe. A big, strong qb with a great arm but lacked mobility. He was a tree trunk in the back field. God knows we have a terrible offensive line, so mobility will be key.

I think it will come down to a pretty good competition between Sean and Brock for the #1 spot, but when the season starts Rubalcaba will be the starter with Brock providing backup. Berglund Jr., Knipp and Walters (if he returns to the team) will be running the scout team for the year. Not sure about Jeffries, but based on some of the comments in another thread I am making the assumption he does not end up with the team.

I agree with the assessment of Walters. I thought he looked like the QB with the most upside and athletic ability at last years spring game. Sure hope he gets back to the team.

This is why you can't believe everything you read on this blog. First off Jeffries is not even on the team and is not coming, he took another offer. Brock Berglund is only here because Jeffries didn't take the offer but if he was here he would of been our starter. Jeffries was recruited by coach Hoke at San Diego state and got lost in the shuffle when Hoke left to go to Michigan. Rubalcaba might have the inside track now. Dont even consider Knipp he will be lost in his first year in college.

Jeffries is the San Diego State guy? Where did he go then if he took "another offer?"

I'll be honest here if our options going into '14 are Rublacaba or Bergulund I hope Collins in updating his resume...

Looks like Jeffries is at Azusa Pacufic. I'll be fine with Ruby as QB.

I hope someone steps up, it's been a while since we've had a decent QB, the last one in my opinion was that kid from Florida, Wagoner or whatever his name was.
