2014 Schedule

dare i ask who this Out of conference MSU is?

Because of the increase to 13 and the lack of OOC options, BSC teams are allowed to schedule fellow BSC teams as an OOC game if they aren't already scheduled to play that season. Since MSU isn't one of EWU's two "rivals" that we play every years (UM and PSU), 2014 and 2015 are years in which MSU isn't a conference game. Chaves and their AD worked out a home and home for those two years, which will technically be an OOC game.

I am definitely excited for EWU's chances at an upset of UW next year, finishing what we started in 2011. They will be losing a lot, and while we lose a lot on D, it seems that Baldwin has been preparing for that by playing a lot of freshman and getting them ready. I'd venture to say our defense will take a step forward, and our offense of course will be even more potent.

As much as I have knocked our schedules the past few years, I love our 2014 schedule. 6 home games is nice, we get Sam Houston and the Griz in Cheney.

I love the fact we don't have 2 FBS games on the schedule. We must be hosting MSU in an OOC game in 2015 then...

UW looks to be very strong next year even with everyone they lose. Sark has really increased the talent level that UW has been bringing in for the past 4 years or so.

I think Eastern represents a dangerous game for UW next year. They'll be double-digit favorites, and rightfully so, but there is serious upset potential in this one. Plus, we are their first game... and strange things can happen in first games. The pressure is all on them... this is a situation that isn't too big for us.

It's hard to make much of a statement about what to expect this far out. Some have suggested Sankey may try to leave early. Hell, I've even heard a suggestion that Tevin McDonald might leave early (I can't see any logic in that one, just an ugly rumor). Also, Ronnie Hamlin is officially done after this season, but may get an extra year of eligibility which the team is really counting on. But as of now, he's finishing his last season. Lots of variables in this one.

Montana State deciding to play us as a non-conference makes about as much sense for them as scheduling non-conference games against Sam Houston State did for us. Why would an AD pick a team with the absolute worst style matchup they could find when they don't have to? I've never been a fan of making things hard on yourself. Just as we should have learned our lesson about SHSU being our kryptonite, the same is true when you look at how bad MSU struggles against us.

MSU just wouldn't feel right about their season unless it included a loss to us. I think they're 2-9 against us in the last 11 years.

All good and valid points. I certainly don't think it would be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination, only that it's more than doable, and I would argue more doable than OSU was this year.

As far as MSU is concerned...look for them to buy out the game shortly after we win the National Championship(i.e. NDSU game they bought out this year). Powers to be should be looking for a fill in!

The rest of the story is SMU made them an offer they could not refuse.

I think it makes complete sense to schedule MSU in off years because UM, MSU and EWU are each others biggest rivals. Rivalries excite programs and fan bases, and ultimately sell season tickets. And, great rivalries don't have to be conference games (USC & Notre Dame, FSU and Florida, Clemson & SC, etc.).

The EWU, MSU and UM rivalries are also great because one of those games are at home each year.

Not to mention it seems like there are a ton of MSU grads in the Spokane area.

I would like to continue to see us schedule MSU in years where we don't play them in conference. It just makes sense for both schools.

You all have been doing this longer and are probably correct. Thinking for playoff seeding would be better served to schedule an MSU like opponent from MVC or OVC (and win btw). Money may be a factor. Should EWU lose to MSU as an OOC, does it still "feel" like a conference loss to the committee when seeding? Just a couple of thoughts.

I don't like it when we schedule 2 FBS games a year because those are historically losses 80% of the time, but I think it is in our favor to schedule top fcs opponents. We have moved beyond hoping to make the playoffs to expecting a deep playoff run each year. We need to schedule tough to be tested and ready for the playoffs.
