2015 Predictions

I'm bored, the Rockies suck, the NBA is well...the NBA. It's time for football discussions to heat up. I'll post my predictions and would love to see some of you do the same.

Western State - W

Houston Baptist - L

Southern Utah - W

Weber State - W

Sac State L

UC Davis W

Eastern Washington L

NAU L

PSUW

UND L

Abilene Christian L

So that puts us at 5 wins and 6 losses. We had several close losses and it seems each year we lose several of those games because of special teams. Now that we have a specific coach to help that out, I'm hoping it will make a difference. Also, of course so much depends on who the starting QB is. I would imagine all three will play at some point though. Defense should be much better if we can get our LB corps healthy.

I know few of you are as optimist as I am, but only three of the teams on our schedule had better than a .500 season last year (EWU, NAU, Sac State). Last year we played EWU tough and have them at home this year. Still a tough task, but who knows. We beat NAU at home, however it will be much more difficult to pull that off on the road. Remember that footballs are shaped oddly and it's hard to predict which way they will bounce, however I am confident that we can finish this season above .500. Go Bears!

As much as I believe that "collectively" this coaching staff has not been successful in recruiting and developing a competitive team in the Big Sky, I am still optimistic about the upcoming season. That said, I predict a win against Western State. I believe that the Houston Baptist game is a very pivotal game in deciding the rest of the season. If we win at HB then I believe that we could go 6-2 in the Big Sky. It's how we will handle adversity on the road in Houston that will allow our growth as a team (players and coaches) to continue. I agree with another post that says this is a very favorable schedule.
The great thing about these kinds of sites is that the members can remain anonymous. That said, Beardown has said that he believes that I am Coach Bigs. I am not, but I take that as a compliment. He always appeared to be doing an excellent job, and with a smile on his face. I wish I could be that much of a professional.

That's a big IF. We barely beat Houston last season and they were primarily a team with Sophomores and even Freshmen. This year they'll be a bit more experienced.

I do agree this is a much softer schedule than previous seasons. No Montana schools, no Cal Poly, and no Idaho State.

3 potential wins - Western State, UC Davis, and Portland State.

8 losses - all the rest.

My prediction is 2-9. The Bears will find a way to drop one of the games to Western State, UC Davis or Portland State.

After thinking about it, the worst possible thing in my opinion is the Bears to come away from an even season. It's best to see progress with a winning season or just bomb and hopefully move on with another coaching staff. A mediocre or even season does nothing for the program in the long run.

Beardown,
I understand your feelings, I feel the same, though I would never say it to any of the players I get to come in contact with. In any case, here is a link to a preseason All-American list I just saw on the Montana Grizzly page (Why doesn't our SID do that for our program?) where they were highlighting their 7 players who made the list.

It is a rather large list. But when you consider there are 122 (I think) FCS schools, it's better to be on it than not. UNC has 7 on the list, 4 on offense, 2 on defense, and one on special teams. WRs Stephen Miller and Sean Leslie, FB Quinn Zamora, OL Marcus Piechowski, Special teams Ellis Onic, DBs Taylor Risner and Brandon Lenoir. I notice that some players who made their all-conference teams are not on the list, whereas virtually all the all-conference players from the Missouri Valley and Big Sky conferences made it. The selectors recognize the strength of the conferences.
Go Bears!
