I see where Sac State has offered Joshua Patton from Sierra High in Manteca. He is a 6' 7" PF/C whom I saw last year. He really has good timing for blocking shots. They also offered 6'6" Jesse Hunt from Drake High in San Anselmo. I also saw him last year at the NorCal finals at Sleep Train Arena. He has a lot of desire to play hard on both ends (good motor). Think these 2 would fit real good.

Nice article about Joshua Patton

Sac St just got a verbal from Jeff Wu of Modesto Christian High.....really good athlete......very underrated

Great to see Coach Katz recruit Asian-American players, but after watching a few of his highlights, he doesn't play defense to "save-his-life". Does look to have a very solid offensive game for a young player.

He isn't Asian-American. He's a Taiwanese national and straight from Taiwan.

A 6-foot-2, 175-pound combo guard from Taipei City, Taiwan, Wu moved to the United States prior to his sophomore year of high school and has already played for a pair of conference championship teams.

and yes his defense sucks

Have either of you ever seen Wu play in person??? I have and I saw his coach put him on Bullard High's best offensive player to start the game last Saturday in Newark. I specifically watched him play defense and I didn't see anything to be worried about, He stayed in front of his man and drew 2 charges on him. Highlight tapes don't show you the whole floor to be able to determine if a player plays defense. Highlight tapes are ALWAYS about the offensive end of the floor. Wait until you can watch him in a game before you write off his defense.

Oh good, maybe my wife will start going to the games w/me now since she's from Taiwan. Actually, if he can really play, a bunch of Asian's will start following the Hornets.

He CAN really play....as nice a jump shot as you have ever seen......his foot speed with the ball is unbelievable....and he can dunk with 2 hands from a two footed stance with ease....very athletic

Relax Peegeepee...its great that you were able to see him in person. But not everyone have the opportunity to do so. EVERY recruiter and sports fan uses video highlights to evaluate players And YES, highlight tapes DO show defensive skills if the player is a high-level defensive player. His junior year highlights (which was the only highlights that was available at the time) shows that we is (was?) a weak defensive player.

If he had obtained a citizenship, then yes, he is Asian-American. But i'm sure we both don't know that fact for sure. haha Really excited to see him though...

Do anyone have ANY updates on any open offers or potential signee besides the 2 who have already committed?
(We should have 2 more open spots)

EVERY recruiter uses his eyes (live) before he ever offers a scholarship to any player. EVERY sports fan uses highlights to do his evaluations if he can't or doesn't want to use his eyes (live). The highlight tape I think you are referring to is one that also highlights Paris Austin from Bishop O'Dowd when Wu played against him last year. Austin is a very good point who recently signed with Boise St. Does the tape mean Austin is a bad defensive player because Wu was scoring on him?? I let your first comment go hence my "no D,,,no PT" reply, but when SacStateHope added the "his defense sucks" comment I thought you may have seen something that I hadn't seen live. I prefer to see someone live before putting negative comments about them out to the public. If I see something I think is good on a highlight, I feel it's alright to comment positively without seeing the recruit in person. That's just my way of trying to be fair to the recruit and the recruiter. To each his own....

Except, he isn't the only player from Taiwan or Asia for that matter who has come over to the U.S. for basketball reasons that aren't and don't need to become American citizens. Did his parents immigrate to the U.S. and become citizens? or was he born in U.S.? Two easy ways to tell if he has his citizenship. Taiwanese media would have reported this a while ago if that were the case.

He can simply be considered as a international student/athlete that plays basketball. I've seen a number of schools recruit these type of players, especially in California. Basketball has globalized and many players from other countries come to play high school basketball in the U.S. (Thon Maker, Andrew Wiggins, Marc Gasol, etc).

Jet Chang, "Kevin" Hu, and "Ray" Chen are some of the Taiwanese nationals that have played in the U.S. and go back to Asia in the summer.

It's safe to say "Jeff" Wu Yung-cheng isn't American and expect to see him playing on the Taiwanese national team in the future.

I believe you're correct about seeing him play on the Taiwan national team, and I think he has the talent to play professionally in Asia for many years. I think he is the first Taiwanese to earn a full scholarship to a Div 1 school in basketball. The Taiwanese media had the news of him signing on the front page of their newspapers.

Hornets got a verbal commit from 6'7" Grant Dressler from Palo Verde High in Las Vegas...never seen him so I have no info on him...
