UNT will play Portland State at Apogee Stadium next season, school officials confirmed Monday.
UNT has a signed contract in place for the game. Terms were not immediately available.
The Vikings are a member of the Big Sky Conference on the Football Championship Subdivision level. PSU finished 3-9 last season and lost its last four games of the year.
PSU head coach Nigel Burton’s contract was not renewed at the end of the season.
UNT is scheduled to travel to Iowa on on Sept. 26 and Tennessee on Nov. 7 next season in addition to playing Dallas-area rival SMU at Ford Field on Sept. 12.
Adding an FCS opponent to its schedule continues a recent trend for UNT. The Mean Green beat Nicholls State of the Southland Conference this season 77-3 at Apogee Stadium.
UNT’s slate of Conference USA games have yet to be announced and could be in a state of flux due to the situation at UAB, which is reportedly considering shutting its football program down.
The Blazers are a member of C-USA’s East Division this season, but are set to move to the West in 2015. UNT plays in C-USA’s West Division.
If UAB drops its program, it could put the league’s entire schedule that has yet to be announced in flux.
