2015 Spring Football

Spring camp is about a month away with the spring game set for April 18th. There are also some fundraising and social events planned around that weekend as well. The fundraiser events are to raise money for additional meals for the football players, which is now allowable due to the NCAA rule changes.

April 17th is the Bob Mattos Golf Classic at the Rancho Murieta Country Club. Later that evening is a football reunion (free event) at the Marriott in Rancho Cordova in which alumni and fans are welcome to join.

April 18th is the spring game (free event) at Hornet Stadium. Later that evening is the 2014 football awards banquet at the Marriott in Rancho Cordova.

Looks like it changed. Here is their FB post about the scrimmage times and locations:

OC/QB Coach Peterson:

1. Kniffin
2. Robinson
3. Merker
Hurt: Cassel :ohno:

I've been shamefully totally out of the loop. What are some things we should look for this spring and summer? Any talent or competition for a spot worth paying close attention to?

QB...we don't find a QB that can be consistent and this season will be a total disaster.

Watched a practice last weekend and was pleased with how Kniffin and Cassel threw the ball, even though Cassel was not suited up. Robinson had trouble playing pitch-and-catch. I did not see one spiral and the guy he was throwing to spent most of the session running down the ball after it was thrown at his feet or over his head.... If Peterson can transform him, he's better than we all thought.

Anyone go to the scrimmage this past weekend?

Saw a practice the other day and seems the hornets lack a star. Saw Milonovic early in spring but not the other day. Was not even at practice. Kniffin is hot and cold. But to be expected from a QB that has not played much. D-Line looks thin, not a lot a bodies but makes sense we did sign 9 DL. Shane Harrison has returned which is huge for the hornets with 2 big WR on the outside, Hennie taking over duties on the inside. Sander is looking good at TE as well as another guy I have not seen before Cortez. Do not remember him from last season. Looks athletic. What I can say is the energy of the team is really good. Players are moving around fast and looks like Sears still has the team drinking the Kool-aid. I am looking forward to the spring game and all the activities they have planned for the weekend.

Bad news - Hornet equipment shed caught fire. Not sure what was lost?

So we are two weeks into spring practice and I have yet to see anything in the Sacramento Bee. I never see anything on Hornetsports.com. The best I see is in the football Facebook. Can we please get something going? I here there is a big alumni event this spring game. Let's create something for spring practice how about a preview of who returns? Who is leaving? Who to watch? Maybe a schedule of where to watch practice. I look on the front page of the paper this morning and I see the University of Kentucky which is great for NCAA Funal Four news but get some Hornet events out there. We nearly had a No hitter yesterday in Baseball. But we got some of that on the third page. Our media relations and promotors should be ashamed of themselves. All I hear are these great ideas of how they are going to grow attendance. Let's promote through items in our power, then go from there. If we win they will come. Basketball has proved that. Let's promote as much as we can

You won't ever see anything in Bee, but we already knew that. Maybe they run something when the spring game happens. Either way it's up the the admin to create their own press, and in this day and age they have those outlets by utilizing Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Personally I feel that the admin has stepped up their game in those categories and I think it will only continue to improve.

I use to do the previews and recaps but they just weren't generating much conversation.

I want to hear previews from someone that is on campus with the program. At practice and have access to coaches. Not a fan. unless you are in the department? The YouTube videos should be linked through hornet sports.com Also how about adding coaches twitter updates to hornetsports.com. Those videos we see are created by the football department not media relations. Which is fine. Just want to see better efforts. Brian Berger still works there right?

I wait for your previews too. Look forward to them. Wish you would continue.

Well, it sounds like it's up to us. If we want SD's incredible previews and reviews, we as fans MUST engage in some conversation. That's a small sacrifice in my mind. Let's do it!

Also, let's recognize that this sort of thing is hard work for one guy, and we've been "letting" SD do this for all Sac major sports (FB, MBB, WBB, etc.). This can't continue. It's way too much. I'd like to see some of you guys with an interest in those areas do something similar. The format doesn't necessarily have to be the same; we just want to see some original thought. We have some pretty intelligent and loyal fans here at SacBuzz. Let's help SD out!

No I’m not with the department and I agree more coverage would be nice. It wouldn’t hurt if you voiced your concerns to someone in the department though, maybe something would get done about it.
