2015 Spring Football

What an awesome presentation today. These two days have been great so far. It was great to see a good turn out. All the Alumni coming back and the reunion pictures were great. Thumbs up from here. Both sides of ball were balanced. Which is good to see, I never want one beating the other bad. Good deal Hornets!!!

I would have to agree with you 100%. This weekend has been a huge success in my opinion. The alumni seemed to really have turned out and they appear to be having a good time. The spring game had a nice crowd too, I was pleased. If I had to have a complaint it was the fact that the bookstore was not open to purchase fan gear. I went there after the game along with a bunch of others people only to find it closed. With all the alum there and everybody hyped on the day they would have sold plenty of gear. I hope the program continue down this path because it seems to be working. :thumb:

Banquet time tonight. Looking forward to it.

really great to hear this news It takes so many aspects for a program to be successful and grow besides the actual 5 or six home games each year. All the other events are so important and enable people to get behind the program and grow the fan base.

bummer that the Sac State bookstore did not get the memo from the sports dept. that this was a big Saturday for teams on campus with the Green Gold game, baseball, softball, track all at home. And just in general, odd that the bookstore is closed on campus on a Saturday with all the students coming to study on campus at the library. But perhaps those days are long gone. Then again, why is the bookstore at a university with 29,000 students closed on a Saturday? Thought with more students living in dorms, the WELL , etc. Sac State was becoming the place to be as a student??????

I updated the players listed based on the rosters handed out at the spring game. I didn’t catch who started today (and a handful of players didn’t suit up) so those are still just a WAG. Here are the notable changes:
Aaron Maher was moved to TE.
DE Ronald Ussery is gone. He was the most experience DE returning.
DT Brandon Tuliaupupu is gone. We lose some depth at DT, which is probably why…
Kyle Evanski was moved to DT from OL.

Hornetsports release on the spring game:
PASSING: Daniel Kniffin 12-21-117-0-1; Nolan Merker 3-4-40-0-0; Alexis Robinson 0-1-0-0-0.

RECEIVING: Jabarri Johnson 5-67; John Cortez 3-26; Jaelin Ratliff 3-17, TD; Nnamdi Agude 1-18; Isaih Hennie 1-12; Damon Jackson 1-8; Jordan Robinson 1-5; Trevor Wright 1-4.

RUSHING: Hunter Rockwell 3-18; Demetrius Warren 3-13; Alexis Robison 1-12; Jeremiah Reddick 5-11, TD; Garrett Steele 1-7; Jordan Robinson 2-minus 1; Isaih Hennie 1-minus 6; Nolan Merker 2-minus 7.
Here is what I recall from the scrimmage. Disclaimer: my breakfast consisted of 5 mimosa’s, 2 bottles of Racer 5 and about 5 Coors Lights so I probably got some players mixed up.

I thought Kniffin looked sharp and he got the most reps. His accuracy is pretty solid, but there were a few drops by the WRs/TEs today. Merker and Robinson only got a few series, Cassel didn’t see the field (not sure if he suited).

I think we will have a void at TE. Cortez had a few drops so I think most of the TE production will come from Sander (who didn’t suit up). A few returning OL starters didn’t suit so the running game struggled. In general I think the offense will be ok so long as turnovers are kept to a minimum (no turnovers today).

The WRs will be fine. Rateliff has been impressive but he had a couple drops. Hennie is going to be a playmaker for this team (he excelled on special teams today).

From what I recall both kickers nailed all their kicks.

Defensively…eh, I don’t really know what to say. They made some plays, got pressure on the QB at times and contained the run. There seems to be a considerable drop off when the bench players got in. The offensive bench moved the ball well against the defensive bench.

I agree with what has been posted about the atmosphere at the spring game. It was well organized and well attended. Herky was there even though it was his birthday and the Hornet Girlz where there handing out rosters. Hornet Club had a tent up. All in all a pretty damn good way to spend a Saturday morning. Sure beat mowing the lawn.

Big Cat sighting at Spring Ball! John Gesek, too.

Wish I'd been there....
You could have been...

Good article on the scrimmage in the State Hornet. The title is misleading IMO, based on reps alone Kniffin is the clear 1 at this point. Sears and the coaches held out some of the returners to get looks at the younger players.
