2016 Big Sky Tournament

And from all accounts the Sac State fans showed up the best, if not the best, in Reno among all the schools in the Big Sky. Imagine Hornet fans would have showed up even bigger if our teams had advanced in the Big Sky Tourney further. Would have been fun to see.

I write this with no intention of sounding like a dick, (might not succeed) but I would hope Sac would outdraw the others, considering 11 of the 12 school's fan bases had to travel 8 hours plus and 500 miles plus OR FLY (which isn't cheap) to get to Reno, when Sac is only two hours from Reno. That is a lot of money for all the other schools and fans to spend on travel.

Championship - Results

W: (9) Idaho St. lost to (3) Idaho - 67-55

M: (2) Montana lost to (1) Weber St. - 62-59

Was a bit late on this. I went to Reno and had a blast. The hoops action was excellent as almost every game was close. It was pretty cool conversing with fans of other programs. This thing is going to grow, and in all honestly I can see the BSCT being in Reno for the foreseeable future. I thought the BSC did a pretty good job organizing it as there was definitely a professional vibe to it. It will only get better.

I thought our support would have been better, however there was a nasty storm that blew in Thursday evening and it dumped rain and snow on the western Sierra through Sunday. It took me and my entourage about 6 hours (not including stops) to get back to Sac on Sunday.

I recommend going next year, WSU fans has a decent turnout as did UM fans. I think this Reno idea will catch on and I hope it stays in Reno for the long haul.

If I can make the trip next year Im gonna do it, it bummed me out watching the games from home, but I didn't have the leave or money to do it :|

Yep, Sac State is the closest and it is just a few hours drive, but with storms it can become much longer. And the news accounts stated that Sac State drew well. And for a 10th place regular season team that is impressive. We only sold out a tiny gym a couple times this year compared to our best year in Division I last year when sell outs were the norm and only lost the title by a few points on the final weekend and the right to host the tourney last year. Sac State support was just fine for Reno and glad the see the tourney will be in Reno for at least two more years and hopefully the tourney along with the conference as a whole will draw more and more fans to all games throughout the conference. The conference will become better as a whole when attendance at all 12 full member schools grows. Attendance will grow for Sac State as the program gets better. The Hornets have never won a basketball title(or football tile) in 20 year membership in the big Sky. That is a long time. You can bet that this was the first Big Sky tourney that actually saw a Hornet crowd show up. Remember the first round at Weber State a couple years ago in the tourney when there was no fans from Sac State and no fans at all actually in the Event Center at Weber. The place was completely empty . And did not see any green at Montana last year for the tourney. So the Hornets did show up very well for Reno.
