2016 Player Signed

Miller can sign in the summer. He can't be listed as a signee now. He is enrolled and will participate in spring ball. We have two QBs in that situation. I don't have a name on the other one. This same situation comes up almost every year. I seem to remember the UofU calling this situation a grey shirt year. :twocents:
That's not what a grey shirt is. A grey shirt is when the student-athlete delays his enrollment. Enrollment is important because that's when the eligibility clock starts. In this case Miller is already enrolled, if the Standard is correct. Let's remember that NLIs can be signed up until April 1st.

Addressing a few things in this thread:

1. This article might helpful in explaining the various terminology involved in recruiting: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/recruiting/2016/01/31/college-football-recruiting-redshirt-greenshirt-grayshirt-blueshirt/79603750/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2. Student-athletes who are already enrolled in school cannot sign NLIs as they are not prospective student-athletes any longer.

3. As a word of caution, do not always believe 100% of what a recruit tells a reporter during the recruiting process. Coaches cannot comment on their status to the media until and unless they sign, and there are also privacy laws that come into play as well.

Coach Hill on 1280 discussing the new signings

http://1280thezone.com/index.php/story/read/jake_tony_jay_hill_weber_state_head_football_coach11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Highlights

Utah is main focus of recruiting (60-65%)
Utah kids main reason for the program's turnaround
Weber's facilities vs other Big Sky programs is a selling point for recruits
Of the 10 return missionaries that signed only Jonah Williams is back now, others will return between April and Aug
A couple other return missionaries that did not sign will return after Aug and probably join the program in Jan

From the Standard

"six of the new signees are expected to leave for missions"

Dakota Miller is a walk-on and thus has not signed a NLI... He will have to earn a scholarship with his play. Sounds like he might not be the QB reported here. If he was that great why would he have not been given a scholarship?

Good question, baller...I'm wishing it all works out & Miller doesn't transfer to another school that lures him away if & when he proves valuable with his play...& thanks Weber Compliance for the article posted, makes me wonder why he couldn't become a "greenshirt" recruit?. Coaches still have to be convinced I'm guessing, hopefully it doesn't backfire on them. :coffee:

The following 6 players, who were recruited by Hill in his first year at Weber and left to go on missions before enrolling and playing, were not listed in the group of recruits signed in February. Gary Callis 6"3" 240 DL, Mike Key 6"5" 340 OL, Lane Sale 6'5" 200 TE, Tanner Sansom 6'1" 195 S, Hyrum Tapusoa 6'4" 270 OL, & Sione Tuikolovatu 6'0" 287 DL. Does anyone have any info on why any of these players were not re-signed after their missions?

The following 7 players are RM's from that same year who did re-sign and were announced as a part of the most recent signing class. Brock Doman 6'3" 275 DL, Cole McGinnis 6'4" 275 DL, AJ Lolohea 6'3" 200 DE, Clay Moss 6'0" 205 LB, Cam Hansen 6'2" 190 LB, Austin Tesch 6'2" 205 LB, Robert Geoffrion 6'4" 260 OL.

Here is a list of 14 players who were on the roster as underclassmen last year and are not on this year's roster as constructed so far. One was a TE starter last year, Cody Eyolfson. Chad Leckington QB, Brady May FB, Chase Vorwaller TE, AJ Wilcox OL (was a starter two years ago), Max Curtis OL, Braden Corpus Wr, Dominic Fraier WR, Gordie Bunn P, James Ohmson K, Romello Dixon DL, Dave Nordmark DE, Billy Nelson S, Kaden Wilson S. I assume that most of these players were walk-ons and not invited back. Does anyone have any information than my assumption as to why these are no longer on the team?

Lastly, does anyone know who will be the Punter this coming year? There is no punter listed on the roster...
Has anyone visited "spring ball " to observe yet? If so, update us on what you saw please...

There are some guys who are going to be returning from their missions after the season begins, so they won't be in this class and regrettably, some who will not be coming back. That is the nature of the beast with missionaries.

AJ Wilcox, I think, is done because of injury. Brady May is on the current roster as a FB, as well as Dominique Frazier who is a DE. Max Curtis, Romello Dixon, and Cody Eyolfson from what I heard, are just done. Chad Leckington saw the writing on the wall and knew he was going to be down at the bottom of the depth chart and so I think transferred.
