2018/19 Schedule

Would have really like to have Fresno at home this year. Maybe Rahe decided to play in Fresno this season and have them at home next year to offset the extreme possibility that we will be playing Utah State, Utah Valley and BYU all on the road next season. But i dont know the finer details of the contract made between schools.

Aside from the 2 "never heard of teams" the schedule is ok. It could be better but it's full of solid Div.1 games that should get us ready come conference time.

I understand Randy's dislike for Dixie State's coach,
I don't understand it. Why would he?

Dixie State's coach is one of the nicest guys around, doing a solid job. Don't know why Coach Rahe would have a problem with him.

Believe me, but there is beef between Randy and Judkins and rightfully so. If I was Randy I sure wouldn't like him much either. A question one should ask is it Randy sending kids to Dixie or the kids finding their way there? I heard that Randy sure wasn't happy about Josh Fuller transferring to Dixie a few years back. Regardless, Randy is in it for his players and he doesn't let personal angst get in the way to helping a kid find the best situation. If that means Dixie, then Randy will help that player succeed.

How is this schedule any different than last years? Other than the extra D1 conference games. We again don't leave the state of Utah for almost a month before conference play. We don't have any really good teams on the road. I am not sure how you all think we will be prepared for conference with this schedule.

You make a great point. I'm happy with four things:

1. Home game against BYU
2. Good mid-major tournament in the Bahamas (which will cost close to $60 to watch).
3. Being involved in the Beehive Classic against USU
4. Home and home with San Diego

Yes, playing on the road against Fresno stinks, but we get them at home next year, and we do get another DI game against Delaware State this year (13 DI games). Folks, we are not going to buy a WCC, Summit, WAC, or Big West team. If we are buying guarantees then we have to take what we can get. I'd love more home and homes with mid level teams and a money game against a P5 team each year; especially if it means that we don't host another NCCAA or NAIA team again. It is a serious waste playing Benedictine University at Mesa, that should be another DI or at least DII game. I get one beat, but two in the season? Why not play Chadron State in the season and play Bethesda as the exhibition? I don't get it...

REALLY it is time for a conference (at least department) wide policy against playing teams lower than NCAA DIII during the season. No more beats!

To those who hate the idea of playing the likes of Ark P. Bluff and Delaware State at home. Think of it this way. Weber would probably be playing more lower level schools if they didn't schedule them. As for me, I'd rather see APB and DSU instead of more smaller schools.

But I don't know what Weber could do to make the fans happy when scheduling even more D I games isn't even good enough to make some fans happy.

Great article about the pathetic joke NCAA basketball scheduling is.

Getting a peek such as this behind the politics of scheduling, you get a clearer view of how hard it can be for mid-majors to build up résumés that warrant at-large inclusion for the NCAA Tournament.

It's not a good thing for college basketball that one of the greatest stories in NCAA Tournament history is going to follow up this fall with little publicity and television time, thanks to almost no power programs agreeing to play the Ramblers. It shouldn't be like this. For Loyola and so many mid-majors like them, the scheduling game feels as rigged as ever.

  Beautiful! Everyone knows the problem stems from the greed of the P5 and high majors. Case in points? THE MIGHTY utes.

I guess the soft scheduling by P5 schools pays off as long as the NCAA tournament rewards them. But keep in mind it also costs if your "Power" conference continually has dismal showings when tournament time comes making your "conference of champions" bravado laughable to anyone who is paying attention.
