2018-2019 Conference Schedules Released...

The BSC has just now "officially" released the conference schedules for the season. Individual schools should be releasing them in the next day or two on their web sites.

It is interesting to say the least as with 11 teams games will now be played on Thursday, Saturday and Monday. It starts on December 29 and ends on March 9.

Just a few thoughts on the ISU women's schedule:

They play four games in eight days plus travel to open the conference season starting with Idaho in Reed Gym on 12/29.

They finish the year with five road games out of the last seven contests ending on Saturday 3/9

That's right, unlike the past two years the final week of the season will stay Thursday-Saturday as opposed to Wednesday-Friday in order to give teams more time to get to the post season tournament.

So if you don't have a first round bye you face the possibility of playing Saturday, having to travel Sunday and play Monday.

Haven't seen anything released yet for the post season schedule but have heard talk the women now play three straight days...Monday-Tuesday, Wednesday with the title game Friday.

My thoughts on that scenario are:

* Either you better get that first round bye.

* Or if you can't you better have a deep team, I mean 9-10 deep to run that gauntlet and have a realistic shot.

There are also two split weeks meaning you've got a home game and a road game the same week. That's tough for teams that don't have easy access to airports like ISU and So.Utah who probably have the most difficult travel situations in the conference.

"Other than the year we played conference games back-to-back, this will be the toughest conference schedule we've ever had to play," said women's Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. "On two occasions we will have to play four games in eight days and another one we will have to play three games in six days. It's gonna be tough."

I'm glad we added depth to this years roster, playing three games in one week is going to be fun BUT it could cause problems for teams that can't GO DEEP into their bench. Its also better for teams that play a fast pace game WHICH I believe were going play this year. It would be nice to have the rest of the NON-Conference Schedule.

One other thing, for some reason the conference decided that both the men and women will be playing No. Colorado at home ON THE SAME DAY. Holt Arena is unavailable for the men because of the AG show, so they are going to have to play that game at Reed as part of a double header with the women. Found that out today.

That should be a fun day. I’ll pack a lunch. 😀
