Hornetsports finally coming through with some meaningful content other than just the typical raw raw fluff pieces. The position previews that have been coming out this week offer some incite as to what to expect/look for as the season is just over a week away. Well done Hornetsports, parlay this with some video clips and interviews next time.
With the redshirt rule change (players can see action in up to 4 games without burning their redshirt), it will be interesting to see how the coaches use some of the younger players.
Special Teams Preview
Long snappers and Medeiros returns at kicker, Hoolihan who is an Aussie style punter transferred in to take over those duties. Punt return duties are a question mark, no possibilities mentioned.
Offensive Line Preview
A couple of voids to fill due to graduation. Likely replacements have experience. Unless guys are moved around from their spot from last season, here is what the OL might look like:
LT - Meza
LG - Bianco
C - Espiritu
RG - Ming
RT - Tappin
Parker also saw time last season so he could be in the mix. Not much D1 experience after those 6, but plenty of size on the roster.
Tight Ends Preview
Not much production in the passing game from this position last season (4% of all reception yards, 0 TDs), and all the returners have limited career stats and zero receptions from a season ago. Sears and Co landed a big recruit here (Anderson) and converted a RB recruit into a TE (Martin). With the incoming talent, maybe the plan is to involve the TE more in the passing game?
Defensive Line Preview
The Hornets are stacked at this position with 3 returning starters. The expectation for this group is to pick up where they left off.
DE - Obinna
DT - Choates
DT - Aumua
DE - Erikson ?
Rosko also saw a start at DE, plenty of experience and depth returns.
