2018 Schedule

Any news on the schedule....

Currently the Hornets only have 10 games schedule for the 2018 football season. I know there was talk that they were attempting to schedule a Division 2 opponent for Labor Day weekend. It appears most of the schools across the country have already announced their 2018 football schedule..not sure of the delay..maybe the Hornets are attempting to schedule a FCS opponent.. they do have an open week on Sept 29.

April 4th and still no schedule... maybe this is what the #unifinishedbusiness hashtag means that all the coaches and players are using...

So much for capitalizing on the 2017 season momentum to sell 2018 tickets...

FCS Football posted this in an article on 2018,saying this was this is the 2018 matchup.

SDSU vs. Montana State
UNI @ Montana
USD vs. Northern Colorado and @ Weber State
WIU @ Montana State and vs. Montana
NDSU vs. Cal Poly

So the Montana schools are favored again...

This gets old...

Finalized:

Week 1 - 9/1 – vs St. Francis of Illinois (NAIA)
Week 2 - 9/8 - at San Diego State
Week 3 - 9/15 - at Northern Colorado
Week 4 - 9/22 - at Montucky
Week 5 - 9/29 - Bye
Week 6 - 10/6 - vs Cal Poly
Week 7 - 10/13 - at Southern Utah
Week 8 - 10/20 - vs North Dakota (Homecoming)
Week 9 - 10/27 - vs Portland State
Week 10 - 11/3 - at Weber State
Week 11 - 11/10 - vs Northern Arizona
Week 12 - 11/17 - at dungpile

The schedules handed out at the spring game claim UNC is a BSC game, but I think that is an error as the BSC isn’t going to a 9-game schedule until 2020. All times TBD.

With an NAIA in the opener and counting the body bag at SDSU as a loss, that means the Hornets will have to win 8 of the remaining 9 to be a lock for the playoffs. 7 of 9 is bubble status. Not good odds considering the 3 straight road trips in Sept and the opponents being significantly tougher than last year.

This schedule is disappointing, to say the least. If you're going to schedule an NAIA game, at least give it to Humboldt State so that it's somewhat fun and interesting with the school being another CSU. Plus, you sell more tickets (lord knows we need this). Most of those kids should be from the region/state and their parents would most likely make the trip for a play-up game. I know I know, these schedules are made in advance, but still, a tiny NAIA school all the way from Illinois? Com'on. Couldn't even get a home-&-home with another FCS? The set up with UIW was not a bad one for us. Even freakin' Davis was able to get U.San Diego to come up and play. Com'on now! :ohno:

Not a good schedule if we're serious about making it to FCS playoffs this year. We all know the biased against West Coast football.

On a side note, does anyone think we have a shot against San Diego State? I think if Thompson gets hot, and they go through the motion and take us lightly, I don't see why not? What does everyone think?

SO TRUE

SD's posit of having to win 8 of 9 is probably true, but it's also doable, assuming that the Griz are that one loss. The potential monkey wrenches in that scenario are Cow Poly, BBQ, the Sioux, SUU, and perhaps NAU. The others are gimmies.

That said, don't discount the possibility of a bodybag upset. SDSU isn't exactly UCLA, and they ARE historically vulnerable to the upset, though not perhaps as much so as, say, Oregon State, which is ALWAYS ripe for the picking....

No, I don't think so. Technically, we could but that would mean that we would have to pay some sort of compensation to St.Francis.

I guess on the bright side; this is what we have waiting for us after this year
2018
Sept. 8 – at San Diego State

2019
Sept. 7 – at Arizona State
Sept. 21 – at Fresno State

2020
Sept. 5 – at San Diego State
Sept. 12 – at Washington

2021
Sept. 4 – at California

2022
Sept. 3 – at Fresno State

To make sure that I understand the delay in releasing the schedule was due to the fact that we are attempting to schedule a NAIA school from the Midwest. Wow, I better get my tickets now before the game sells out. Unbelievable!!

Yeah, seriously... I would’ve at least been trying to sell season tickets before finalizing this turd.

Now that's good humor...and I'm sure no one is going to disagree with that evaluation!

Who negotiated the Aztec contract? Shouldn't that be a home-and-home, or at least a 2-for-1? I realize they'd probably buy their way out of the return trip to Sac, but even that extra cash would be a help....

Weirder things have happened, GAS. In 1995, the Big West was rated LOWER than the Big Sky, yet UOP hosted Oregon State, one of the Tigers' three wins en route to a 3-8 season record (largely due to the extreme body-bag schedule that featured suicide games against Fresneck, Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon, and that one home game against Oregon State). At least our staff at Sac isn't dumb enough to make a suicide schedule like that....

The 2018 schedule is now posted and it's a huge dumpster fire IMO, mostly because of the opening game against a weak NAIA opponent, where a win doesn't get us any closer to the FCS Playoffs, but a poor performance could eliminate us...

Anyways, here's how I see this playing out - with the cupcake at the beginning coming back to haunt us...

ST. FRANCIS - W 52-21 (1-0, 0-0)
@San Diego State - L 31-3 (1-1, 0-0)
@ UNC - W 42-35 (2-1, 0-0)
@ UM - L 45-24 (2-2, 0-1)
CAL POLY - W 24-20 (3-2, 1-1)
@SUU - L 31-7 (3-3, 1-2)
UND - W 38-30 (4-3, 2-2)
PSU - W 38-17 (5-3, 3-2)
@Weber - L 20 - 7 (5-4, 3-3)
NAU - W 35-31 (6-4, 4-3)
@ UC Dungpile - W 56-35 (7-4, 5-3)

EWU has only 10 games scheduled with 2 bye weeks not sure which is better....

In the eyes of the playoff committee, we also only have 10 games. EWU has week 1 open and their athletics department posted a multi-million dollar deficit. They might travel to Sac for $50 and half of a Snickers bar if we ask nicely.
