#6 seems optimistic. I do think we are playoff bound again and probably a top 10 team. How improved the offense is and and how quickly the defense gels will probably determine how good we are.

Seems like a fair assessment. I believe we are a top ten team. I also believe that we lost some very talented players last year. I felt the same way the previous year losing most of our secondary and some experienced players on offense. But we seem to have a pretty deep recruiting pool now. I am not sure we reload, but I don't think we take a step backwards either.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Davis lose a huge chunk of its defense and one very talented receiver? Eastern also lost a number of very good offensive players, most of its receiving corp and a chunk of its defense. Both, I'd argue, lost as much or more than Weber. Yes, on defense, Weber lost some very good players. Most of the secondary and two awesome linebackers; yet, the cupboards are definitely not empty, and Weber has recruited well. By the way...I heard somewhere that Hoskins was going to come back this Summer. I'm guessing that isn't happening?

On offense...Weber brings back almost everyone. Iosupa Opeta is a big loss, but our offensive line is extremely deep and talented. I think we see the offense making huge strides this season and really coming into its own. I'm only worried about Tight Ends, but feel that Malone will only get better and that there is potential with that group.

Defense...Our line is solid. Might be the best in the Big Sky. We know we are deep at linebacker and added a really good JC guy from Snow who should push our guys to get better. Also, there are a number of highly experienced guys. I'd also argue that our safeties are experienced and with the Boise State transfer are primed. I'd love for Hoskins to suddenly reappear on the roster, that would give us more, but I still feel we are talented and deep at that position. The DBs/Corner position is a slight concern, but like every other position on the field, there is a lot of talent and potential. Collins was playing great to end the season and I'm sure coach has some surprises up his sleeve. Every year he has been here, the DBs/Corners have been really good. I don't think that suddenly ends this year. It is his baby and we all know, he has a solution.

Special Teams...yeah, we are loaded.

Agreed Tal.

Every school graduates a few key players. I think the biggest reason we are considered third best in the Big Sky right now is largely offense/QB play. We do return our entire offense minus an OL and some RB and WR depth. But both EWU and UCD return stellar QBs. Even at it's best, our offense was inconsistent. Presumption is that we will be better on offense, but scheme and personnel won't change much.

Defensively, I expect we will run a similar scheme with lots of new faces. I have confidence that we can be an aggressive, stingy defense regardless of personnel changes.

Lindy's kind of lost credibility with me by having JMU ranked 11th. I think they are basing that on losing their head coach, but it sounds like they have a ton of starting/contributing players back. I've seen them ranked #1 in other rankings. Also, UNI shouldn't be in the top 10.

As WSUWildcat mentioned, Davis and EWU both have very good QBs returning. That is probably a big reason why most have them ranked higher than Weber.

This year, we play at Davis. That could be for all the marbles. However this season turns out, I think it will be a fun ride and we should be in the playoff mix once again. My feelings are that the offense will be opened up a little bit and that our QB play will look a lot better. We won't miss a beat at RB or WR positions.

Biggest: Weber State at UC Davis (Oct. 26)It's disappointing this is the only matchup between last year's Big Sky tri-champs (Eastern Washington was the other), but maybe it's a prelude to some meetings in the FCS playoffs.

Coach Hill one of five favorites to win national coach of the year

A difficult non-conference schedule could sabotage Hill's Robinson candidacy, but it also could build it if the Wildcats perform well. Hill has led them to three straight FCS playoff appearances, including an 11-3 season in 2017 that is considered their best ever.

Team Preview from Hero Sports

https://m.herosports.com/fcs/football-2019-preview-weber-state-big-sky-bzbz

The Cats definitely had a pedestrian offense last year. Frankly, it did just enough to get the job done and win games. Yet, really, during the Coach Hill era, has the offense ever been spectacular? Coach Hill loves to dominate the time of possession and shorten offensive opportunities for opposing teams. Scoring quickly isn't a huge prerogative for these Wildcats. Holding onto the ball, maintaining drives, and shortening the game, while scoring, is the offenses best defense. What could make this team scary is the fact that Weber does has so many players on the offensive side from last year back. Also, those guys were really young last year. But, to me, having a number of core linemen back is by far more important than anything else. The Cats have: Two-year starter at center Ben Bos, Pre-season All-American guard Ty Whitworth, Two year starter at tackle Tyler Downs (hope he is fully healed), part time starters guard Cole McGinnis and tackle Xavier Stilson are both back. Also, I have a feeling that former defensive tackle Gordon Moimoi will be used a lot this year. Everything starts with the line.
