See something wrong with Amari McCray's profile? We'd love an assist, just let us know about the error and we'll get right on it.

Viking Basketball Signs Graduate Transfer Amari McCray

https://goviks.com/news/2020/4/30/mens-basketball-viking-basketball-signs-graduate-transfer-amari-mccray.aspx

Portland State Basketball has added one more player to its roster for the 2020-21 season with the signing of Amari McCray to a grant-in-aid agreement.

Viking Coach Barret Peery made the announcement on Thursday, increasing his recruiting class to eight players for the coming year.

McCray is a 6-9 post who is a graduate transfer from the University of the Pacific. He has one year of eligibility remaining and can play right away.

A native of Ruston, LA, McCray played two seasons at Howard College in Texas. As a sophomore, he averaged 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and was named Western Junior College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also earned All-WJCAS first team choice, and NJCAA All-West Region 5.

McCray was a redshirt at Pacific in 2018-19, then played this past season, starting 22 of 29 games. He averaged 6.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, blocked 20 shots and shot .566 from the field.

"Amari is a big body post that you can throw the ball to on the block and has a very good feel on the offensive end," said Peery. "He had very good experience from his junior college program and from Pacific in the West Coast Conference, which will be an added bonus for us. At the defensive end I think he has a very good presence that will help us around the rim."

Portland State has signed a total of eight student-athletes for 2020-21. PSU returns five letterwinners and one redshirt from the 2019-20 season.

PSU was 18-14 overall, 12-8 and fourth place in the Big Sky Conference this past season.

If he is a grad transfer from Temple, why is he playing for Kennesaw St. in the highlight clip?

After some more research, I see he played at Kennesaw for 2 seasons....'17-'18 season he averaged 17pts for kennesaw....sat '18-'19....played '19-'20 at Temple where he averaged 7.5pts.....that seems to explain it...
