2021 Position Previews

Hornetsports is churning out the position previews leading up to the season. Hats off to them on keeping the fans keyed in on some of what is going on. I've added my guestimates on who gets the nod at the starter spots.

Special Teams
Hornetsports write-up pretty much states everything is up for grabs with the exception of Clark at punter. Sentkowski has to be the favorite for place kicking.
P: Clark
K: Sentkowski
LS: Cognetti

Defensive Backs
The write-up points out that we will be pretty inexperienced here. No returner has more than 5 starts. We'd be worse off if not for a Montucky State transfer. We'll see struggles here, fortunately we have a pretty weak schedule that should make it look not as bad on paper.
CB: Filer III
CB: Washington
NB: Capoocia
FS: Ross
SS: Jeter

Offensive Line/Tight Ends
Write-up states 3 of 5 returning starters with some transfers coming in. Barring major injuries I think the OL will be fine this season. We're stacked at TE.

LT: Stiefel
LG: Ko. Richardson
C: Long
RG: Parker
RT: Weldon

TE1: Martin
TE2: Anderson

Wide Receivers
Write-up indicates that the top 4 receivers from 2019 return. Were stacked at WR. After Williams, Clayton and Gable, Cotton saw lots of time on the field as well.

WR1: Williams
WR2: Clayton
WR3: Gable

Linebackers
Write-up indicates that the two top returning tacklers are at LB. We should be fine here. Hawkins is the heart and soul of the defense and he is back with Harris along side him. Bailey is also has lots of playing time on the books.

MLB: Hawkins
SLB: Harris

I'm not sure I like the idea of a 4-2-5 defensive alignment, particularly when we play Cow Poly. We'll see how that works out....

Running Backs
As indicated in the write-up and what everyone who knows anything already knows, we're stacked at RB with Dotson and Perkinson. Fulcher saw action in '19 as well and there are others who will likely be mixed in.

RB1: Dotson
RB2: Perkinson

Defensive Line
The write-up highlights the returning DE's Eriskson and Hjelm. This is another position with question marks, especially in the interior but some of the returning DT's did see action. A lot of unproven youth at this position.

DE: Erikson
DT: Hardeman
DT: Stanley
DE: Hjelm

Quarterbacks
It's been widely discussed on this board. As discussed and indicated in the write-up, lots of talent to choose from. I think the starting position is Dunniway's to lose.

QB1: Dunniway
QB2: O'Hara
QB3: Bennett

Kick-off is one week way.

I take it we're going to be in some form of Solo personnel most of the time on offense. I don't see a reference to a fullback.

I'm not sure I like that idea....
