We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

Great start to the year! No hitter, lead off HR to win the game, comeback late in the game.
Coach C has silently built this program into a power.

While not really Sac-related, I'm surprised at the number of no-hitters I've already heard about this year. First, it was the Liberty softball team no-no-ing Maryland (the first time they've done that to a P5 school) for their first win of the year after opening 0-5 (they are now 5-5), and now Sac does the same to Northern Illinois in baseaball.

Isn't a no-hitter supposed to be a rare thing?

Yep, GCM, great start to the season. Pretty young team so I'm considering this a rebuild year, especially at pitcher. Some of the young bats look good too. Nice to see a new video scoreboard as well. Christiansen has build a damn good program here that it worth tuning in to on a regular basis. The game production is even better now with the ESPN+ deal. I heard there will be a center field camera view added whenever the equipment gets in. Exciting times for Hornet baseball.

Hornets open the season with a home sweep of Northern Illinois.

Friday: 11-7 win. Hornets jump on the Huskies early and cruise to an opening day win. Iwasa had 3 RBI and Valero and Moretto hit a HR and drive in 2 runs each. FR pitcher Stewart goes 5 strong in relief for his first collegiate win.
Saturday, Game 1: 8-0 win. FR pitcher Hunter throws a 7 inning no hitter for the win in his first collegiate appearance. Bojorquez hit 2 doubles and scored 2 runs from the leadoff spot and Doyle and Valero had 2 RBI each.
Saturday, Game 2: 2-0 win. Walker hits a walk-off 2 run HR to give the Hornets the win in the pitchers duel.
Sunday: 10-9 win. Hornet rally for 5 runs in the 6th to take the lead off of a 2 run double by Vincelli-Simard and Zalasky goes 3+ innings in relief for his first win of the season.

It was an exhibition so technically not an "L". I didn't tune in but probably was a bullpen session game.

As SD said, didn't count. And the staff rested guys that played crazy innings all weekend against NIU. I read nothing into it....

Hornets (7-0) went to 6th ranked Long Beach State (2-4) and get the road sweep. LBSU took 2 of 3 at defending NCAA Champs Mississippi State last weekend.

Friday: 1-0 win. Hornets win the pitching duel with a 10th inning HR by Valero. Saul went 7.2 innings with 9 Ks. Zalasky picked up his 2nd win in 2 innings of work.
Saturday: 5-4 win. Hornets jump out to an early 4 run lead but the bullpen can’t hold it. Moretto hits an 8th inning HR for the lead and eventual win. Zalasky goes 2.1 innings for his 3rd win of the season.
Sunday: 5-4 win. Hornets rallied from a 4-run deficit with a 3 run HR from Valero in the 8th inning. Rolling hit the go ahead HR in the 9th and Rodriguez closed out the game for his 1st win of the year.

Hornets look to stay unbeaten as they head to Cal (4-3) for a midweek game this Tuesday. We should be ranked going into this game.

Until the school makes some financial commitments to this program, it will always be considered an upset. I read that Coach C was a finalist for the LB and Fullerton jobs. Until a real ballpark is built, restrooms, concessions, pressbox, shadedeck, etc. the program will always languish in not really considered serious territory.

What does Special Agent John Smith actually do? Use that money for a raise for the HC and assistants.

Regardless, an impressive sweep of the then #6 Dirtballs. Congrats.

That is how you finally get ranked, exceptional pitching and live bats. Big week this week, at Cal and at home vs Dallas Baptist, which some polls have them in top 25, so gonna be good week for the Hornets!

Stop being so angry and enjoy the ride. Coach C was in the running for some Pac12 jobs too. I trust Nelsen and Orr will do what they can to keep him here, but I don't expect Coach C to stay if offered his dream job (whatever that may be).

Yep. It's early but this team is already showing some grit. The young arms have been most impressive so far. I hope the Hornets can keep this going.

Tuesday: 2-6 loss. Hornets get their first loss of the year at Cal. Bojorquez tied the game with a 2-run HR in the 6th, but Tackas gives up 4 runs in the bottom of the frame.

The 20th ranked Hornets (7-1) start an 8 game home stand and start with a 4 game series against Houston Baptist (2-7) this weekend.

The relative records are apparently telling in this series. The game made SportsCenter as Soph RF Cesar Valero absolutely went OFF today. He was 5-5 with 3 HR (in the first three innings, no less), as the Hornets put up the point-equivalent of THREE TOUCHDOWNS, winning 21-4 in a game that was halted by the run-rule after 7 innings. Valero also had a triple and a single. Three other players contributed four doubles. Double digits went up in the fourth inning. Valero had 10 RBI before giving way to backup C Carson Blatnick late in the game.

The teams face off in a double header tomorrow at 1300 and 1600 at John Smith Field. The series ends Sunday at 1100, and then the Hornets get a day off before facing Moraga-St. Mary's on Tuesday and finish up the home stand with a three-game weekend set against Dixie State to kick of the WAC season. The Hornets are now 8-1, 0-0 WAC, while Houston Baptist falls to 2-8, 0-0 Southland.

Great job, Hornets!

Hornets follow up their best ever start with possibly their worst week ever.

Last Tuesday: 2-6 loss at Cal. Hornet pitching implodes in the 6th as Takacs gave up 4 runs. Bojorquez scored the only Hornet runs with a 2 run HR in the 4th.

Friday: 21-4 win against Houston Baptist. Hornet bats erupt as Valero led the way with 3 HRs.
Saturday, Game 1: 1-4 loss. Hornets fail to get a clutch hit and leave 11 runners on base.
Saturday, Game 2: 2-3 loss. Hornet bats go quiet and only have 3 hits on the game.
Sunday: 1-4 loss. Hornets strand 11 base runners.

Tuesday: 1-8 loss vs Saint Mary’s. Hornet pitching gave up 8 runs on 10 hits and the Hornet bats couldn’t string anything together.

The Cal (6-6) and St. Mary's (12-1) loses aren't concerning. Dropping 3 of 4 to a below average HBU (6-8) program is.

Hornets (8-5) close the homestand and open up WAC play as Dixie State (6-5, 2-1 WAC) comes to town for a 3 game series.

Haven't been able to keep up due to vacation and some work turmoil. Hornets finally get a WAC series win at Utah Valley. Hornets are 13-14 (5-7 WAC) at the halfway mark. A lot of young talent is there, things just need to come together, especially with the pitching. Coach C will right the ship so not really worried about it.

Hornets finish the WAC conference play strong and are 28-23 (17-13 WAC) heading into the final regular season series with San Jose State 27-25 (16-14 MWC). The Hornets found a bit of consistency with a few of their pitchers, but struggle a bit when using outside of the "go to" group. Bats have come alive the last month and half as the Hornets are 17-10 since April, not a bad recovery from an awful March. We'll see if this team can hit the 30 win mark.

If the Selection Committee is anything like the Softball Committee, 30 wins won't do any good. 27-win SW Missouri State got in over 30-win Sac State. SMH....

Hornets (30-24, 17-13 WAC) got their 30th win and now have 10 straight seasons with 30+ wins. What a program! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Hornets take 2 of three from SJSU (28-27, 16-14 MWC).
Thursday: 4-3 win in 11. Hornets walk it off when Gouldsmith beats out a throw to first on a potential inning ending double play.
Friday: 0-12 loss in 7. Hornets get 1-hit at San Jose and the pitching gets shellacked.
Saturday: 14-4 win in 8. Hornet bats come alive and spoil SJSU’s senior day. Hornets scored 7 in the 4th with 2 outs. Bacho drove in 6 runs on the day.

Hornets will play a tough UTRGV (32-23, 17-13 WAC) squad in the first game of the WACT on Wednesday at 9 AM.
