2022 Football schedule

Haven't seen any more interest (here anyway) on the now filled October 8 games against Div II Lincoln (Oakland). From the Lincoln University website:

"Lincoln University’s 2022 Football Schedule is unique. The Oaklanders will square off against a variety of teams from different divisions. From NAIA, to Division II, to games against Division I opponents under the bright lights with the country watching, the Oaklanders are taking on all comers. But let’s dive a little deeper into this season’s most notable contests against the big boys of college football, the Division I schools...

Portland State (October 8)

The Oaklanders face a team a little closer to home when they travel to Portland to take on the Portland State Vikings, members of the FCS. The Vikings are looking to improve upon a 2021 campaign in which they went 5-6 on the season, They dropped the first two games to Power 5 schools Washington State and Hawaii. Then they had a midseason hot streak, where they won five out of seven games, with wins over Western Oregon, Southern Utah, Idaho State, Cal Poly and Weber State. The season ended on a bit of a sour note though, as the Vikings then dropped their final two games to Sacramento State and Eastern Washington in blowout fashion. Portland State is looking to regain some consistency after an up and down campaign."

BTW, what kind of mascot is an "Oaklander"?

Damian Lillard?

I was looking to see what our 11th game was going to be. I was concerned as most FCS teams had already announced their schedules, and WOU, CWU and Simon Frasier all did not have that date available. Hopefully, the new AD can get a jump on this next year so we aren't scrambling for opponents.

My *understanding* is that it is the head football coach that sets/schedules these non-conference games, at least at our level? That includes the two $ games. Wonky schedule though. NO home games until October 1st, when we go a three-game home stand, then two away, then two at home, with the final away?

There was an ongoing thread on the D-2 board last year about Lincoln. They operate in a dodgy manner. Unless they clean up and improve, this could end up looking like Lomax v Delaware State.

Below are the 2021 scores for Lincoln (they did beat Willamette!):

Whitworth University 29-31
Willamette University 34- 9
Stephen F. Austin 13-61
Eastern New Mexico 6-52
University of Texas of the Permian Basin 0-75
Texas A&M-Kingsville 21-51
Central Washington 0-92
Western Colorado 6-72
Western Oregon University 16-55

Having Lincoln University on our 2022 schedule is an embarrassment.

It really is no different than having Simon Fraser on the schedule. We've played them before (as have some other Big Sky schools as well).

No, there is a a huge difference! SFU is a legitimate university with more than 30,000 students. They may not have a great football program, but as a university they are head and shoulders above a majority of the BSC.

My fault. I thought you were questioning their football prowess. SFU is an excellent academic school. Their American football program is not, however. But comparing a school that has 60+ years of excellence to one that just got started a few years ago is kind of like apples and oranges.

Home games this year at Hillsboro Stadium will start at 2pm. Game times except for the Idaho game are up on the schedule page.

An interesting quirk this year, we only play one game outside the Pacific Time Zone, (9-24 at Montana).
