Massey takes a look at our 2022 season. It is not pretty: https://masseyratings.com/cf2022/6302

I guess I don't see why it is "not pretty'. It is better than most seasons. Favored in 4 games (3 conference). Within 10% of 2 more. Based on their ratings, I'd say we are in good shape for 5-3 in conference, considering the holes we have to fill, mainly quarterback.

These are Massey's computerized ratings, not my predictions. 5 and 3 in conference? Possible, sure. However, the last season we were more than .500 in conference was 2015.

So what's your predictions? I think 4-4 is fair, 5-3 is possible. I'd love to get that first conference game in Missoula. :D

And, ALAN... the #1 toughest schedule.

Actually, no one has played any games yet so Massey rated the schedules based on the conferences. With 8 teams in Massey's top 25, the Big Sky was deemed the toughest conference this year so all the teams in the conference are "tied" with the toughest conference schedule at the moment.

FWIW...Massey has the Viks at #27 to start the season.

My prediction? In the last 11 seasons PSU has averaged 2.8 conference wins and 5.2 conference losses. Given our history I would think it most likely that in 2022 we will go 3 and 5. Only in two seasons (2015 and 2011) were we better than .500 in conference. Again, given our history I think it is rather unlikely our conference record will be better the than .500. It is more likely that it will be 2 and 6. We had 4 seasons (2017, 2016, 2012, and 2010) when our conference record was less than 3 and 5. I am hoping for 4 and 4; I think 3 and 5 is more likely; and, I think 2 and 6 a distinct possibility.

Interesting in basing it off past history instead of true opponents, but to each their own. It does make some sense.

I think we have a good shot at winning all the home games. We beat Weber at Ogden last year and that one, along with Sac State, will be the toughest ones. I like our chances at Poly and Idaho, which leaves the two toughest ones, Montana and EWU as possible "sure" losses. However, with scheduling Lincoln, I don't see how we make the playoffs with a 5-3 conference mark (or even 6-2), unless we can somehow beat SJSU or UDub (not likely).

The College Sports Journal has its 2022 Big Sky Football Conference Preview and sees PSU at 4-7 and 3-5.

Fair assessment, although I would say they have Davis pretty high up. Early on in this conference, you can usually predict a team's success based on the experience at quarterback. I think we will be better than that.

Canzano reports: "Until this week, in fact, the Vikings’ final home game of the regular season (vs. Sacramento State) didn’t even have venue. Portland State AD John Johnson locked down Hillsboro Stadium and Bruce Barnum’s team will play that final game on a Friday night." So, what is the story here? Why didn't we have a venue for a Saturday afternoon date with Sac State?

Official schedule still showing kickoff scheduled for 2pm Saturday, November 12. Canzano usually is good at providing links but he just kind of blurted this out.

That just means nobody came to work over the weekend.

Or they are all up at Spokane for the conference kickoff. Maybe Canzano lost his conference credentials so he's upset.

Didn't the conference have some games late in the season on Friday nights last year for one of the ESPN networks to air? Seems like I recall Weber had a couple. Maybe ESPN wanted to show the game on Friday and we had to work it out with Hillsboro before we could agree to it.

FWIW...Sac State's schedule still shows a 2pm kickoff on Saturday, November 12 as well. They are also in Spokane as well.

Viks 8th in media poll, 9th in coaches poll.

Had to wait for Mike Lund to get back from Spokane.

Doesn't sound as big of a deal as Canzano made it to be. He's beginning to shoot more from the hip now that he is out of the reporting business.
