Canzano reports: "Until this week, in fact, the Vikings’ final home game of the regular season (vs. Sacramento State) didn’t even have venue. Portland State AD John Johnson locked down Hillsboro Stadium and Bruce Barnum’s team will play that final game on a Friday night." So, what is the story here? Why didn't we have a venue for a Saturday afternoon date with Sac State?

Had to wait for Mike Lund to get back from Spokane.

Doesn't sound as big of a deal as Canzano made it to be. He's beginning to shoot more from the hip now that he is out of the reporting business.

So, we lost the date on a scheduling conflict with a high school game!

It does happen from time to time. It doesn't sound like the venue was ever "lost" or the game was in danger of being moved. The city just needed to move some dates around, and Sac State needed to OK it as well.

Hillsboro is getting more and more things out there at Faber. I doubt this was the first time something like this happened (or the last). Unlike the Timbers, Hillsboro seems to like us playing our games over there.

Over at Championship Subdivision the consensus seems to be an 8th or 9th place finish for PSU in the BSC: https://www.championshipsubdivision.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=53067&sid=83ceb3af12116e70e45e477dd35a329c

Our September road opponents...

San Jose State 93
Washington 21
Montana 90

Daunting, for sure.

Canzano in his column Saturday notes:"I don’t think PSU will eliminate football. It subsidizes the rest of the athletic department." https://www.johncanzano.com/p/canzano-mailbag-focuses-on-pac-12

No Mr. Canzano that is simply not true. See September 2021 Collegiate Consulting Report on Portland State Athletics. Page 151:
"...the potential savings of dropping football in 2023-24, which would initially decrease athletic expenses to $10.8 million; this
represents a $4.5 million or 30% reduction from the 2019-20 budget." https://www.pdx.edu/president/sites/g/files/znldhr756/files/2022-01/CC%20Rpt_PSU_Final.pdf

Did you put the comment on the wrong thread? Seems like you were meaning to respond to Canzano.
