Well, the QB competition in spring ball just got interesting. There could be more transfers coming.

Numbers at Butte aren't very impressive. It's still Barron's job and if anyone contests that it'll be Weisser.

Two thoughts: Would love it if he were to become the next Cantwell type QB; Then realized if he's a really good prospect, the Montana's would be offering him & he'd choose either easily over Weber State. :o

Really wonder if a highly rated QB prospect would be available (or interested) in committing to the Wildcats, what with the current state of the offense...might have to find a "diamond in the rough" type to hopefully polish up & shine. :|

I agree with some of what you are saying. The incumbents do have the edge. It will be a competition for us to watch. As far as his numbers go, we don't really know what the nature of that team was. I think he was rated the top guy in his league. He has a good arm and fair speed from what I could see. I think Cantwell is a good comparison. As I looked through his offers, there were some FBS programs looking at him. I don't know what all the circumstances were, but he seems to be someone with potential at any rate. Our coaches have seen something in him. Last year 4 QBs played. There is no reason to think that most years won't be similar. That is just the nature of the game and a signal that a better O line is needed.

From what I have seen so far, our coaches are overturning every rock to find the linemen we need. If we improve on the OL it will be due to developing what we have mixed with new blood through recruiting. Without the OL improving, it doesn't matter who our QBs, WRs, or RBs are.

Just reading this statement and makes me wonder if you realize that this Butte College is in California and NOT Montana.
I don't understand your general doom and gloom over this program. I completely trust Jay Hill and his assistants and just because someone isn't highly recruited doesn't mean they cant play. :twocents:

My bad, I'm familiar with Butte, Montana, therefore the reference to the Montana's... I think you missed the point I was making that any recruit might turn out to be a happy surprise great get, even though coming in with not so great stats. I'm not dissing anyone here.

Coach Jay Hill is & has been a blessing to Weber State football...a great coach. I feel he will make every effort to continue to raise the Wildcats to new heights. No doom & gloom here. But realize fan criticism when some things aren't going good is a norm on a fan forum. The 2021 version of Wildcats (two seasons) showed that there were some weaknesses & some of us fans felt no way was the team future playoff semi-finals ready, let alone playoffs set period.

Some posters here seem to feel that we all should be gleeful all the time, not negative, & be in denial about results that show not so great, great, great. We are all entitled. I choose to point out realities to some & say "lay off the purple Kool Aid drinking a bit".

There are ways to communicate how you feel about things without calling out student athletes or saying that everything has gone to he!!.

For those with early onset dementia, Cantwell was a walk on and not recruited by anybody. Talent is talent and you find it where you find it. :coffee:

Oldrunner, If you are implying that I said as much about student athletes or things going to..., then you are WRONG! And yes, you are one of those posters I referred to at the end that I think is in denial at times! It's laughable at times your reply posts to others. Get real, cool off with some Kool Aid then.

I really liked Cantwell, what a baller, & my reference to this new recruit was maybe he could become the next one. Excuse my dementia, but didn't Cantwell play at Snow College before? His background could be somewhat similar?

This. The kid from Butte does not move the needle. He is likely a walk on.

As I looked through his offers, there were some FBS programs looking at him.

What other offers? I have not found any interest from any school.

I don't really think he has an offer in hand from Weber. Nobody on social media from Weber has followed him, commented or liked anything regarding him coming to Weber. He created his own graphic to announce his commitment. My guess is he is hoping to walk on.

You're right. I was looking at Bryan and not Brian. My bad. Looks like our Brian only had D11 offers. Let's hope that he is that diamond in the rough, like Cantwell.

Coaches can't really comment on players until the signing period. BUT, it is strange to see a player commit when there isn't a coach following him.

Only seen it happen one other time, also from an unknown JUCO transfer. The kid made the announcement, allegedly enrolled, and never was added to the roster. He later appeared on an NAIA roster.
