Vikings Game At San Jose State Moved Up To Sept. 1; Adams, Malo Earn Preseason Honors

Portland State will open its 2022 football season at an earlier date than originally planned. The season-opener at San Jose State has been moved up two days and will take place on Sept. 1 at CEFCU Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. No television or streaming information has been released at this time.
The 2022 season-opener against the Spartans will be part of a traditional 11-game football schedule for the Vikings. The schedule includes two FBS opponents and a rigorous eight-game Big Sky Conference slate that includes three FCS playoff programs. The Vikings have five games at home and six on the road in 2022.
Other than the 7:30 start at San Jose State, and a 1 p.m. game at Washington on Sept. 10, no other game times have been finalized. The game with the Huskies is be televised on Pac-12 Washington and the Pac-12 Now App. All other Viking games will be live streamed on ESPN+. Game times and other schedule information will come later this summer.
ADAMS, MALO NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA TEAM
Senior cornerback Anthony Adams and senior defensive end VJ Malo have each been named to the Bluebloods Preseason FCS All-American team. Adams, who is a two-time All-American, was named to the first team, while Malo, an All-Big Sky Conference choice in 2021, was selected to the second team.
This is the second preseason All-America selection for Adams who was also named to the Athlon All-American team. The 6-0, 185-pounder from Newberg, OR enters the 2022 season as the nation's leader in career passes defended (40, 31 pass breakups, 9 INT). Last season, Adams had 52 tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, five pass breakups and a forced fumble. He was named an All-American by various media outlets following the 2019 and 2021 seasons.
Malo, a 6-1, 270-pounder from West Seattle, WA, comes off a big 2021 campaign. He had 45 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and forced three fumbles. His 20 TFLs were second-most for a season in school history and most-ever at the Division I level. The 10.5 sacks are also the most by a Viking at the Division I level.

Bad play call at the end of the first half. Either take the FG and go into half down 10-14, or spread the field on that play. No need to try to send the "we can own the line of scrimmage" message against a lower tier Mountain West program on a Thursday night of week one.
