Personally, I feel that a top 3 or 5 is already in place. The committee is vetting options just to make sure they have the right guys. Yet, I too worry about who is making the decisions. Weber made the wrong choice in keeping an assistant for basketball. The program has been heading in the wrong direction for almost half a decade. That decision was too quick when it shouldn't have been. Putting the interim on Coach Duft and opening a national search would have been the right move. And the best move for the program. It desperately needs a shot in the arm. One good recruiting class is all basketball needs to fix issues. For football, stability is what is needed. It takes seasons to develop players. Weber is on the cusp of becoming really really good. Bringing in a new guy not associated with the institution or program could be really dangerous and frankly harmful. I'm really glad that Mental is the Interim HC now and feel he is playing a role in choosing who the next coach will be. However, in this case, the committee needs to find stability. Someone associated with the program who has the tools necessary to continue and possibly build on what Coach Hill created and leaves.
Also, because signing day is next week. The committee needs to get moving. Guys will make a decision whether to come or go based on who the next HC will be. We have a handful of commitments and guys coming back from missions who want to know where we are headed and if the team will continue on the direction set by Jay Hill.
