2025 Baseball

Hornets (31-24, 15-9 WAC) finish the season dropping 2 of 3 to Utah Tech (23-29, 9-15 WAC) who grabs the final WACT spot. Looks like the last game was treated as a bullpen/senior game as lots of pitchers saw limited work, still no excuse for blowing the final home game.

The story of the year has been the hot bats coupled with a couple of good starters (Gibbons & Lay) and a solid reliever (Brown) with a very suspect bullpen. Tournament play is a different animal and I fear this team doesn't have the arms to make a run through the loser bracket like in '19 so staying in the winners bracket with solid starting pitching and good hitting will be paramount to making a NCAA Regional.

The WACT is set. The top seeded Hornets get a double bye and face the winner of Grand Canyon and Cal Baptist/Utah Tech this Thursday at 11:30 AM PST.

Blowing the final two games. The Sac State pledge, “do just enough to scrape by.”
Dude, have you been following any of the coverage? Sure outright would have been nice - but after Friday, the 1 seed was secured. Get guys right, be ready to put our best lineups and rested arms this week, that was the goal.

Hornets cleanup with the WAC accolades. Reggie earned coach of the year, Gibbons earned pitcher of the year (first ever for Hornet baseball) and first team honors, JP Smith, Pimentel-Guerrero and Brown also earn first team honors and Poturnak earned 2nd team honors. Not bad for a team that "did just enough to scrape by" for a regular season title after being picked to finish 5th in the coaches preseason poll.
