2025 Official Signees Thread

I may be missing something but is it a concern that we don't have more of these players officially signed? There are almost 50 players listed as "commits" but I've only seen a handful who've been announced as officially signed.

I think that's pretty usual, but we're not used to this sort of volume. I appreciate the AD updating those that sign. I'm sure we'll lose a few more that don't sign because they got a better offer, or they don't like another signee at their position, etc.

Only the portal and JC commits are able to sign. The early window for the HS student athletes closed on Dec. 6th. The next signing period for them doesn't begin until Feb. 5th. So the dozen or so HS commits from the past couple weeks cannot officially sign for another month.

Of the list you linked, 10 of the HS student-athletes already signed during the first (early) signing period and are listed here: https://hornetsports.com/news/2024/...ers-on-first-day-of-early-signing-period.aspx

The JC commits still can sign through Jan. 15th.

@Hornet25 mentioned that the portal players that entered their name by Dec. 28th can still be signed. The Twitter/X signee list above are all portal players.

Thanks for the detail!

I’m with Bodega on this, more on the fact that we have certainly out kicked our coverage with number of guys saying committed out there vs number of scholarships left available. Once you count the guys that have officially signed we still have roughly 30 commits out there hoping to put pen to paper and a 40 scholarship recruiting class just isn't realistic. So being greedy I don’t want to lose a lot of these FBS transfers or top high school recruits in waiting but the staff has to start drawing the line, February signing will come fast.

Well, the first point was — many of the guys recently committed can’t sign yet. So there’s one reason why more haven’t officially signed.

Secondly, more to your point, we’d need to know the number of available roster spots. Best we can do is guess based off the number of graduating seniors who cannot return and the number of players leaving via the portal.

I’d also venture a guess that Coach Marion expects a few more players to leave the program due to the regime change and not having a defined role or perceived path forward.

And lastly, he may have put somewhat of a clock on these portal commits by telling them “first come, first serve” while knowing how many roster spots would still be needed for the next HS signing period.

In short, I feel confident there’s a method to his madness.
