2025 Offseason Portal Tracker

Wouldn't stress about Weber leaving. He was a walk on that redshirted and then didn't see the field the next season. Probably hoping to go somewhere to get an opportunity. Can't imagine he was in the long term plans for the team

if he was 7th or 8th string this year. There’s about 4 guys from that room gone since the causeway, you’d think you’d want to compete?

WR room is going to be empty. Smith Jr. is going to get a lot of reps. Wonder if they are all bailing because Conklin is leaving too?

Agree 100%. You’d think they would want that year of team experience advantage to get play time.
Young CFB players these days reacting on emotions and attention of the portal. Thinking either better offer will come or I will rescind my request and stay.

I’m watching replay of Tenn St vs Montana Griz - Amazed how many players in this game are FBS transfer portal players.

QB from Fresno State FIFE is starting for QB Griz as example.

Perfect example how SAC ST had zero excuses for this BS season about not having enough Depth!!

I’m still pissed we’ve heard zero about changes that will make 25’ season different than 24?

Rinse & Repeat incompetence is 100% entire staff fired! Can’t see two seasons of this seasons coaching performance.

HC AT should know he needs to deliver

Portal has cooled off for Sac State, we'll probably see a couple more when it opens for real on Dec. 9th. Scudero has posted no offers since indicating he plans to portal out; Gandy has posted a few low major offers.

I don't see anyone in the portal out there announcing offers from us...

There was depth, none of it was/is better than Conklin. With the JC guy bailing, no doubt the coaches will have to backfill via the portal.

ChatGPTs Portal Strategy for Sac State.

When evaluating potential players for Sacramento State to target in the football transfer portal, the focus should likely be on positions of need, such as quarterback, offensive line, defensive backfield, or other areas where depth or experience may be lacking. Given Sacramento State's recent success in the Big Sky Conference and their competitive program, the ideal transfer targets would be those who can contribute immediately and elevate the overall talent level.

Here are a few types of players Sacramento State should consider targeting:

### 1. **Quarterbacks**:
- A transfer quarterback with experience can provide immediate leadership and stability, especially if the team is looking for a starter with a high football IQ. A quarterback who has experience in the FCS or even FBS who might not have found consistent playing time could be an ideal fit.
- **Ideal Candidates**: FBS backup quarterbacks looking for playing time, or productive FCS quarterbacks from teams with a similar or better profile in terms of offensive system.

### 2. **Offensive Line**:
- With offensive lines often being a key differentiator at the FCS level, adding a few experienced transfer linemen could bolster the team’s protection and run blocking. An FBS transfer with starting experience or someone from another competitive FCS program could be valuable.
- **Ideal Candidates**: Offensive linemen with size, maturity, and proven ability, possibly from programs where competition is stiff and they want more playing time.

### 3. **Defensive Backs**:
- A solid defensive back with experience in coverage and leadership could be key to strengthening the secondary. Look for transfers from higher-level programs where depth has limited their opportunities.
- **Ideal Candidates**: Players from the FBS who have experience in a similar defensive system or a standout FCS cornerback or safety who can elevate the defensive backfield.

### 4. **Wide Receivers**:
- Given the emphasis on high-scoring offenses in the Big Sky, adding a wide receiver with good speed, size, and separation skills could give the Hornets another weapon in the passing game.
- **Ideal Candidates**: Receivers from FBS schools who are looking for a larger role, or experienced FCS receivers who have put up solid numbers and could contribute immediately.

### 5. **Edge Rushers or Linebackers**:
- Adding an edge rusher or linebacker with pass-rushing ability or sideline-to-sideline playmaking skills can help elevate the defense. A transfer with previous success at the FBS level or a standout FCS player could help Sacramento State compete in high-stakes games.
- **Ideal Candidates**: Players with high motor, speed, and a demonstrated ability to pressure quarterbacks, whether from the FBS or other competitive FCS schools.

### Key Factors to Consider:
- **Fit for Sacramento State's system**: Players who are familiar with up-tempo, fast-paced offenses or aggressive defensive schemes may be the best fits.
- **Academic eligibility**: Make sure transfer players meet the academic standards and have the potential to contribute without eligibility issues.
- **Character and leadership**: Transfers should possess strong leadership qualities and the ability to adjust to the program's culture and environment.

Sacramento State's recent success, including their Big Sky titles, makes them an attractive landing spot for transfers. Look for players who have already seen success at a high level and are seeking opportunities to contribute immediately to a winning program.

Yeah, I don't recall one bad snap. And best years for kickers/punters in program history.
This one surprised me, being how AJ's been a three-year starter for us. He's been rock solid with his snaps during his time as a Hornet. "Next man up" will have some big shoes to fill.

I’m referring depth across the entire program. QB / OL / DL / CB etc. Depth that is good enough to almost start! Not drop off where we are a 3 Win program whining about injuries!

You don’t quit your job, you quit the management.
Not sure if that statement applies here. You wouldn't leave for a higher profile job that could potentially lead to more money? I sometimes think folks are looking for anything to support their argument that the coaches should be fired. There is plenty of legit arguments but losing a transfer that could play at a higher level or a transfer that hasn't sniffed the field isn't due to "losing the lockeroom"

It’ll be interesting to what type of offers he gets. Gandy has great film too but so far only getting lower tier (non MV, BSC) FCS offers
I think he will get offers similar to Gandy with a promise of at least starting role out the gate. There will be some QB desperate squads in the Southland that will take a look!

Bennett has some impressive wins to his resume, but his injury history and this next stop being his FOURTH university, says something.
