2025 Offseason Portal Tracker

Kadeezy, any of these entries into the portal today play much for Sac State over the last couple years? Also, big move into the FBS as an independent. Good luck.

Agents are a big problem. In professional sports if you are under contract you can’t negotiate with another team and other teams can’t reach out to you. Appears not to be the case in college. Just read where University of Tennessee’s QB was being paid 2.4 million and his agents were contacting University of Oregon during the season to see if they had interest. Apparently they are looking for $4 million. There needs to be contracts and some rules enforced to eliminate tampering and to reign in the agents.

Yep, there are no rules so technically no one is tampering. Total wild wild west action, and to be fair, this is what the coaches have been doing for many years so I see no issue with the players getting in on the action.

The Nico Imaleava irony is that the NCAA sued Tennessee for their NIL deal with him while he was still a HS player and lost which opened the flood gates for the current NIL landscape. Nico (and his camp) in turn tried to leverage more money from UT which has seemingly backfired. UT to UCLA is a significant demotion from a college football lens. What an arc worthy of a made for TV movie.

Only way the NIL landscape gets reigned in is if the schools band together to collude on "market caps" for player payment (not that the collectives would be obligated to follow along) or Federal legislation regulates it. Until then, enjoy the musical chairs and hope our coaching staff can do what they can to retain and bring in quality talent during the portal windows.

As voluminous as these portal entries seem for us, we have to remember the pure numbers this roster had going into spring. I’m looking at this as the coaches doing their due diligence on as many players as possible, new and returning. And, it’s worth noting that thus far none of our entries have risen to the Thomson, Skattebo, Broussard, Lynch levels…. Knock on wood. If your biggest loss is a TE recovering from a devastating knee injury from a loaded position group, that’s a win so far.
