I was hoping to hold off posting this, thinking the news would be better, but it is what it is. This season, however way you slice it, clearly has rebuild all over it. We are going to need a lot of players to have breakout seasons for us to be competitive this year. Hopefully, the foundation will be laid to build for next year. There will be growing pains all over the place. Looking at the schedule, here are my probables for earning a win (1-no chance at a win, through 9-easy shot at a win)
8-23---Tarleton State at home---The Texans will be arriving at Hillsboro with a Top 10 FCS team in place. With us still trying to settle on a quarterback as well as many other positions of need, starting with a top 10 team in Week 0 is not good...Probability for a win->2.5
8-30---at BYU---First of two money games and it is the toughest. A strong Big 12 team at their place. Our lack of experience will make it tough to even keep it close...Probability->1.5
9-6---at North Dakota---Our former conference foe now residing in the Missouri Valley conference, and boasts a strong FCS squad. It is scary to think this may be the easiest of our non-conference foes because it will be tough to stay with the Hawks...Probability->3.
9-13---at Hawaii---Usually a trip to Hawaii is welcomed and the opposition is not that good for FBS standards. But the Warriors have shown some steady improvement that last few years and simply, we do not have the horses yet to compete here...Probability->3.
9-27---Northern Arizona at home---The conference opener is also the home opener and it will be tough. In a quarterback driven conference, the Lumberjacks probably have the best returning quarterback and hope to break through this season...Probability->3.
10-4---at Eastern Washington---The Eagles are a team that has been treading water lately, similar to the Vikings. This year's return to the Dam Cup shows the Eagles having more talent, though, on both side. Hopefully the Vikings look better...Probability->4.
10-18---Weber State at home---Another tough team comes calling at our home turf. The Wildcats will try to rebound from last year's disappointing finish and they have the horses to do it. Vikings should be improved at this time but again it will be tough...Probability->3.5.
10-25---at Idaho---One of the better teams in the conference and one of the tougher conference games. The Vandals seem to always successfully reload and this year was no exception. This game will be as tough as any of them...Probability->2.5
11-1---at Cal Poly---The Mustangs have been sleeping in the basement for awhile now, so this game should be a cakewalk. But it is on the road, and the Mustangs now are beginning to see some talent emerge, and we are rebuilding...Probabilty->4.5.
11-8---Sacramento State at home---The Hornets are trying to move up so this could be their last season in FCS, and they are also trying to rebound from last season's debacle. Hopefully we have improved up to this point, but it will still be tough...Probability->3.
11-15---Montana at Providence Park---Our appearance in Portland and a tough opponent to boot. So many similarities in the background between these two teams, but not so on the field where the game is played. This will be tough for sure...Probability->2.5.
11-22---at Northern Colorado---Our best shot at a win, yet it is on the road, at altitude, possibly in the snow and coming off a big game the week before. Enough excuses for you? This will only be tough if we let it, and there is a good chance of that...Probability->4.5.
