28 Players Left the Program After 2016, Here’s Why

Eh, I'm not a Sears fanboi but this comes across as a weak hit piece on Sears. There was not a very thorough analysis done. A breakdown of departures by reason would be more meaningful, and of those departures how many were scholarship players? How do these departures compare to other programs, or other years during our D1 era?

So the article highlighted a few folks that weren't happy with Sears and left...ok but how is this not typical at any program? Also those departure numbers in the article include a HC change which generally causes roster upheaval regardless of the program.

The article also didn't talk about the APR which hasn't been lower than 931 since the '09-10 season and has averaged 943 between '13-14 and '16-17 seasons (last 4 seasons in the NCAA database). If attrition was a big problem, it would be reflected in the APR...

...so yeah I'm calling bullshit on this article...

Univ of Buffalo?! Haha, that is the armpit of America. That is definately not a step up. Ketteringham has lead feet, watched him play a few weeks ago, Huard offense has a quick step QB, KHam freezes too much. Guess we will see in a couple of weeks?
 
I don't understand the context of this story. There are no stats to compare to other programs in the Big Sky or the rest of the country to get a sense if this is normal. I get the author is probably a student and was looking for an angle, but an editor should have helped them out on this one.
 
I couldn't agree more with SD Hornet and the other responses, but let me add one more small piece. If you are on my payroll and show up to work wearing a grill somebody is going to tell you to wear it on your own time. If I have to have the discussion with you, you are most likely unemployed and I don't care who you work for next. My point is, all those reasons for leaving are nothing more than excuses for leaving. As far as the success a couple of those players had after they left...good for them. There are a bunch of young players on the current roster who could run off to a juco, continue to develop their game for a year and then be ready to contribute at another level. Just means the program is recruiting the right young players.
