3/13 Home Opener UC Davis

UCD got a quality road win yesterday in Moscow. They'll be coming in with some confidence. Gilliam is a stud RB and new QB Rodrigues had a very solid debut replacing Maier. As a team they made few mistakes (only 3 penalties for 35 yards and no turnovers), especially considering they were playing in their first game in a year and a half. After watching their game, I think they could be Weber's biggest challenger for the conference this spring. This game could very well decide the conference auto-bid (after this game they get 3 home games and a road game to CP). Hoping we fill every one of the 5,000 seats being sold. Weather should be pretty good and not much else going on.

I agree, this is the game for the championship of the BSC. This should be a great game. I think the BSC gets 2 teams in to the playoffs. UCD has the toughest road, but they look up to the task. After us, they still have to play EWU, and UI still has a game at EWU. I feel that 2 losses will keep a team out.

To beat UCD, we will need to slow thier running game and pressure their new QB. If we do those two things and play our normal brand of football, we should do quite well. I'm glad this game is at our place and that they have to come up about 4000 ft in altitude. That could make a difference in the second half. That and us keeping fresh D linemen in the game as we go. :coffee:

Stopping the run will be key in this one, which under Hill has normally been our strength. Force them to become one dimensional. I also want to see more production out of our special teams after a very lack luster performance against Idaho State.

Already a strange year. We clobbered Idaho State, who won @ SUUcks who lost by 1 @ NAU who got clobbered by EWU, who lost @ Idaho who lost at home to UC Davis. Cal Poly is the only real unknown at this point having missed their first 2 games.

Now, UI is postponing this week's game due to Covid-19 protocols within their program. I hope they didn't give too many kooties to UCD. :coffee:

Heard UI had several players out vs UCD due to covid protocal

Hey Wildcats fans!

Looking forward to a great game this weekend. My expectations of a win for the Aggies isn't super high, but I'm hoping that we can at least make it close. Here's a couple players to keep an eye out on for UC Davis.

Offense: QB Hunter Rodrigues had an impressive starting debut completing nearly 80% of his passes for 243 yards and 3 touchdowns. This stat line included a conservative 1st half passing scheme. He additionally showed some mobility behind the line of scrimmage to extend the play. Everyone should know RB Ulonzo Gilliam, but our true freshman relief RB Lan Larison ran 66 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown. We've often lacked depth at RB, so nice to see multiple guys contributing. WR Carson Crawford is healthy again after missing time last season and popped off for 120 yards on 8 receptions with 2 touchdowns.

Defense: Keep an eye out for true freshman NT Chubba Maae who is listed at 6'2 359. Kid has an unrelenting motor for his size and was consistently eating multiple linemen up. LB Connor Airey had a big day against Idaho with 10 tackles, a sack, and an interception. While we only got 1 sack on the day, the defense was getting fairly consistent pressure on Beaudry forcing him out of the pocket or making errant throws leading to 2 interceptions. The unit looked stronger throughout the game against Idaho really shutting them down in the 2nd half.

Again, I think you guys are in a league all your own in the Big Sky right now, but here's to a good game with no injuries. Y'all are more than welcome to join us on our forum for discussion of the game. GO AGS!

Welcome to the board CA Forever. I think it's still too early to crown anybody. Been a strange spring and I feel the strangeness has just begun. Davis looked good against Idaho. Watched most of it and was very impressed with the running game and the size of your lines.

My thoughts are if Weber is able to take your run game away and make you guys one dimensional i think Weber takes it but if we cant slow your very tough run game down
It could be a very long day for us. Regardless its gonna be an epic match. You coming over for the game? Plenty of seats left.

I won't be able to make it out this time, but will be watching on the big screen at home. Our run game succeeded against a Vandals D line that was thin due to covid protocol so I would take that outcome with a grain of salt. Your defense still looks like the cream of the crop, but if I had to guess ISU is probably in the bottom half of the conference. I don't know, tough to say how all of this plays out. Like I said, I'm just hoping that we keep it respectable.

ISU stacked the box on us and tried to shut our RBs down. It did work for a short time, but our passing loosened them up and we just sort of wore them down. That sort of strategy takes having good depth in your DL positions. ISU just didn't have enough horses to sustain that effort. In the second and third quarters we could do about anything we wanted. The fourth quarter was time for everyone to get some game time.

Stopping us last year meant stopping the run game. I'm not sure that formula will work this year. On the other hand, if you don't respect the run game, we will take advantage of that as well. IMHO, the best bet to defend us is to play strait up D and don't over play any one aspect. :coffee:

At least eight UI players missed Saturday's game with covid. Four UI players that played Saturday are presumably covid positive. That game shouldn't have been played. Now three UCD players with possible exposure to those UI players are being monitored and tested daily. Cross your fingers this game still happens.

My prediction
Weber wins and covers 38-24

I agree with this
Reasonable predictions based on what we think we know. I'm just hoping for a win and that we play a good game, with few mistakes. Davis is a quality team, with a quality coach. and a tradition of winning. They may well be the best team on our schedule. Both teams will try to do the same things on O. It will be the D and special teams that decide this game. Our #1s looked quite good against ISU, but ISU is no UCD. The defense will need to improve. I have a feeling that they will, but it has to happen on the field.

My prediction is Weber State 31 UCD 17.

Wonder if there is going to be some strong winds. If so, it may become lower scoring where both defenses can load the box. It’s sure windy tonight, but the wind advisory ends tomorrow morning.

It will be interesting to see how Weber State performs in their second game.

Whatever the weather is, it will be the same for both teams. Not sure what the weather is normally like in Davis, but I think the change in altitude may be a bigger factor. Most all of our guys are in their own element. It's hard playing on the road anywhere. They may be more afraid of Mormons than the weather.

They’re showing us a ton of different looks in the run game and we are a step slow. Their qb is slippery too. Defensive line needs to pick it up soon.

We’ve gotten Shaheed loose twice. Barron missed the first and Shaheed drops the 2nd. Sloppy first quarter all around.
