I could see us going back to the triple header of body bag games for football to keep above water if this comes to fruition.

Why in the hell does the UO get just under a million bucks from lottery dollars? They've got revenue streams out the wazzu and could make this money up with the snap of Phil Knight's finger. UO, or even OSU for that matter, should refuse to accept this money. The situation has completely changed since 1989 for UO and OSU.

I can only imagine what the Athletic Director & Coaches are feeling right now. Their budgets keep getting smaller year after year, they seem to make it work but this has to be a real shock to the program. What I don't understand is them taking the largest percentages from the schools that need the money the most. Of course, I'm sure some folks will be pleased, those that would like to see all sports eliminated from PSU. They don't realize that sports help put kids through college and that a successful sports program brings in donors to fund non-sports programs. Sad, Sad, Situation.

Why not just eliminate the lotto $ distributed to UO & OSU and redistribute it to the smaller programs, and leave PSU alone entirely, or at the very least use some kind of protracted phase out, giving programs time to figure out a solution.

And by the way, when someone made the decision to eliminate the sports action proceeds to attract NCAA events to Portland, what exactly did the various programs receive in return for giving up that revenue stream? Or did the revenue generated by these events simply fill the coffers of promoters and the local hospitality industry?

They really haven't thought this through very well. Not only will student athletics suffer because of the cuts but all the individuals who benefit from the athletic programs, such as students & non-students who work the games, local businesses that depend on revenues from pre & post game spectators, etc. Loss of revenue is loss of taxes to help with the deficit. If the governor is so worried about cutting the deficit then let him start with his own office and the waste in the state government. Just my opinion.

Considering that the PSU Athletic Department is held together with bailing wire, duct tape and chewing gum, cutting these funds would be devasting. Is this really what the Governor's office considers a necessary cut? Time to call out the big dogs ASAP to kill this.

This appears to be poorly mismanaged, and all for selfish political reasons, not for the benefit and general welfare of the state. These selfish politician need to be exposed and eliminated, replaced by those selflessly seeking to maximize the state's public utility.

UO doesn't need lottery money anymore. OSU probably needs some, but not as much as they are getting. PSU needs more, much more. The small colleges need to be maintained at the current level or have their amounts "rounded up."

Why do the leaders of this state continually direct the state keep shooting itself in the foot? to cut off its nose to spite its face? Why are Oregon leaders so selfish?
