9 Game conference schedule & ESPN kick-off for next year

Just saw on FB.. I know not everything you see there is accurate, but in 2020 the league will be going to a 9 game conference schedule. I guess that answers the split division question. Also the ESPN kick-off will not be EWU vs. North Dakoka it will be Jacksonville State at Chattanooga....poor choice in my book.

East coast bias.

Perhaps, but it's been West Coast or Midwest teams every year since it's inception. Hard to call that East Coast bias. That said, you couldn't feature a better game than EWU/NDSU.

As for the 9 game schedule, I think that is a smart move by the Big Sky. I don't know if that answers the "split division question" though. The thought was that teams would be divided into group of 7, so they'd play six divisional games and 3 against the opposite division. That's exactly what they do in the SEC, except they only play 2 against the opposite side.

I love the concept of the 9 game conf schedule. The only gripe will be some teams have 5 and some teams have 4 home games every year in conference, but I can live with that (UM and MSU won't like that at all). It should make our OOC scheduling easier as well, we can stick with one FBS program and a home/home with FCS teams. If we do it right, we would schedule the home OOC FCS game with the year we only have 4 conf home games.

Its a year too late for that game anyways. Jenkins graduates and neither team will be what they are this year...

EWU/NDSU was the clear choice, I think ESPN just wanted to get some new schools involved

I don't know if I agree with that. Eastern and NDSU have both proven they'll be a factor every year. We return our QB and entire offensive line. We don't lose much on defense either. We'll have to replace some parts-- especially at WR- but we already have guys contributing in the program that can fill those holes.

Recruiting WR to Eastern can't be that hard. "Want to have a good QB throw 100 or more balls to you every year? Come play for Eastern!"

As much as I would enjoy the NDSU @ EWU game being the kickoff...it might be a blessing that we don't have to show off our embarrassing east side bleachers to the world again.

On a more serious note, that would be 3 straight years for NDSU and the second time in 4 years at the same venue. I'm sure that's what ESPN is thinking with this choice.

The last two games have been with North Dakota State. The first game was with Eastern Washington. Although NDSU vs EWU is a higher profile game and will probably be more entertaining, they made the right choice by getting some new blood in there. If we want to keep this going, we can't create an elitist culture where only a few teams get to play. I don't think they made a bad choice in Jacksonville vs Chatanooga.

I meant its a year too late for the JSU/CHATTY game, my bad on the wording. Both teams are good this year, but graduate a lot of their talen.
