That gives fans like Mike Vander Veer — aka "Screaming Eagle" on the EWU fan forum — hope. The fan forum invoked the miraculous win by Division I-AA Appalachian State over the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2007.

"At Eastern, we have the underdog mentality. Everyone, well, they don't disrespect us, but they don't respect us. We cherish the underdog role," said Vander Veer, a 2009 alum. He'll be meeting up with other EWU alumni before the game, including a Mercer Island native who planned to paint his face half red, half purple.

Almost forgot... ran into and met freebird while walking around the UW campus Friday. :thumb:

Good call on The Ram. Pretty good place to view the Hawks game. Ran into Ashton Boothroyd's parents while there, and found out after they left that they had picked up my tab, so thank you! :notworthy:

:tothehand:

After getting seated in the visitors section for the Montana State game, I told my wife, I would delete any posts that might have been offensive to those that do the seating.

I'm out.

Hi Mike, it was great to run into a friendly face on campus and talk some Eagle football. I'm glad you enjoyed the Ram, I wish TJ had got a few more touches. I enjoy being able to put faces to newsgroup handles. BTW you were right about the Nevada thing, I was way off.

One thing I really like about college football is that I've worn my Eagle gear in Berkley, Reno, and on the UW campus, and I've always met the friendliest people at those places both in Eagle fans and in our opponents. I sat behind some Huskie fans at the game that knew Gabe Jackson, Nick Edwards, and Greg Heard from high school. They were great in rooting for their Dawgs to win while still cheering on Gabe, Nick, and Greg. They didn't seem to mind me and my wife with our incessant, "FIRST DOWN" ... "EAGLES" chants (there were quite a few). What did you think of Renards mom? Loud and Proud, isn't she the greatest Eagle fan.

Oh yeah. You were dead on with that one. She was up front only a little ways away from where we were sitting, so I went over and talked with her a little bit. :thumb:
