A return to DII, where we belong....

SInce we are reliving the posts from the past, I will reiterate my previous assertion that our only chance for a return to relevance is by returning to Division II where we belong.

Now, as many of you sadly always do, commence with the shrill, ad hominem, and indignant attacks and howls of protest at my audacious but immensely logical proposal...

You made a statement without providing any reason or evidence behind your point. Then you launch an attack on the type of responses you expect to receive. Not an ideal post in my opinion.

I like being in the FCS. I don't want to go back to playing DII schools when all of our other sports teams have made a nice impact in Division 1. It's time for the football team to step up, not step back.

First off.....Miguel.....awesome vocabulary! Obviously a Division 1 education!
All joking aside, I wonder how those decisions are made. How much of a factor does our record make? At what point does funding impact our status? How about attendance?
I do agree with Brian.....I like the FCS level of competition, and have my opinions regarding our difficulty competing in football. I don't know what our administration envisions for the future, however, given the most recent hiring debacle, I'm not sure they have any vision.
UNC is a great school with a proud history.....it
seems tempting to drop down. Let's face it, a championship at any level is still a championship. I continue to hope that the aministration will wake up and help put us in a better situation SOON. I hope they do what's necessary to move forward at the FCS level. .. SOON.

You want to be aligned with peer institutions so is UNC peers with Northern Arizona, Idaho State, Weber, etc. or with Western New Mexico, Adams State, Chadron State, etc?

If the football program can't get their shit together for 10 years that's not reason enough to change, that's throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Moving down so you can dominate the RMAC is probably the worst idea I've heard in years on this site and that's saying a lot. :dunce:

AMEN Blofeld AMEN ! Go D1 Bears

I'd love to hear what the logical argument is for dropping to D2.

The issue with the team isn't whether or not they play D1 or D2. The issue is that they are not very good and are poorly coached. Quite frankly, they wouldn't even dominate the RMAC right now. At best you would be looking at a middle of the pack team with this coaching staff.

As an institution UNC is a much better fit with its Big Sky brethren then it would ever be with the RMAC schools. And as many have already pointed out, the other athletic teams have done an admirable job at the D1 level. The football team just needs a commitment from the school to bring in a competent coaching staff.
