Ags vs. Lumberjacks

sell out? did somebody say sell out?     We haven't seen one of those in I don't know how long. Those are very rare in Flagstaff my friend. Expect anywhere from 7,000 to 10,000 fans this being homecoming and all I'm expecting more than normal  The dome holds around 14, 000 so you won't have any trouble getting tickets.

Thanks for the congrats against UND. It was a tough game. What's your perspective of the Big Sky?, this being your first year and all. From an NAU fan's point of view I'm liking the bigger more competitive conference. The four new schools have brought a new and improved look. It's nice to see the close competitive games. No more Montana, Eastern at the top. It feels like there is no easy win...well except when you play UNC or Idaho State  ....knock on wood, we still have to play them...

We bought our tickets in the visitor's section, but we might be moving around depending on how many people are around us.

I am glad that we are in the Big Sky, it has helped tremendously with scheduling. Having all but two of our games set in stone each year means we are going to play on FBS and one other team each year. Not to mention our strength of schedule has shot through the roof. It is a dog fight in the Big Sky each week.

Any good spots to eat/drink in Flagstaff?

A sellout is closer than you might think. After the renovations the dome only holds 10,000. Supposedly we were about 600 short of a sellout at family weekend.

Welcome to the big sky. My mom is a davis alum and I love the town. Burgers and brews and crepe town are my personal favorites in Davis. As far as eating/drinking in flagstaff try the Lumberyard brewing company. They have great beer and good food. Also Beaver Street Brewery is also really good.

Thanks for the tips, we will check them out. It will be nice to get in Friday night and get the party started early.

How do you guys feel about the game?

Seeing how close you guys have been in your losses I am a bit worried. I am sure you have heard of him already, but if not you will be very familiar with him after Saturday.

This guy is just plain nasty on the field. I have been a Jacks fan for sometime now and I have not seen any athlete close to this guys caliber.
If you can see Zach Bauman, he can see you. If you can't see Zach Bauman you may be only seconds away from death.
When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Zach Bauman.
Zach Bauman has already been to Mars; that's why there are no signs of life there.
If paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, and scissors beats paper, what beats all 3 at the same time? Answer: Zach Bauman.

I also have to add how bad we have been in recent homecomings. I am sure Davis would like nothing more than to spoil our little run here. One thing I remember from Davis games is the UC Davis Baaaaaannnnnddd Uuuhhhhhhhhhhhh

Greetings, Aggie6thman.

I concur about the breweries as being good stop off's while in town. I'm partial to Mike and Rhonda's (The Place) for a greasy spoon breakfast. Dara Thai downtown or Sakura on Rt 66 for sushi and teppanyaki. Haven't had a steak at Black Barts or Horsemens in ages but I remember em being good. Lots of mom and pop type restaurants downtown to choose from.

Homecoming parade runs through downtown @ 11 am on Saturday. Tequila Sunrise is a thoroughly horrible idea when you're in your 30-40s but sure was a fun time when I was 21-24. Bars open @ the crack of dawn and mass stupidity ensues. Half the fun now is walking around downtown @ about 8-9 am and watching the college kids stagger their way back to campus/apts.

Buffalo Park for a walk/gog. A drive up to Snowbowl will be scenic with the aspens changing. An hour trek down to Sedona is kind of a must if you're this close also.

My buddy from Tinsley Hall went to UC Davis after graduating from NAU to get a degree in Viticulture and Enology (wine making). I got to visit Davis for two days a few summers back and had a good time.

Hey Lumberjacks, Thanks for the downtown tips, have never been to Flagstaff, so looking forward to exploring the place; it sounds great. Your homecoming sounds a bit like our Picnic Day, and an entertaining weekend to pay a visit. Did you know Burgers and Brew and Crepeville are owned by the same people - no wonder you like them both. It also sounds like you face some of the same challenges we have with creating campus-wide interest in sports; overemphasis on academics is killing us (JK) :geek: I would expect this game to be quite intense - you are on quite a roll this season, congratulations!, and we have been playing pretty tough most games (with some exeptions, like the second half of SJSU, a quarter here and there like with CPU and SDU, but hey...). See you Friday!

Good to know about all the pre-game fun, I just hope we don't pass out before the game!

Our team has been up and down this year. We have scored 40+ a few times, but IMO, we haven't been able to out it all together yet. Should be interesting.

Lumberjacks have to be the favorite because of:
1. Travel/home field advantage
2. Homecoming (+/-)
3. Elevation
4. Better record

However, the Aggies have been improving and it should be a competitive game. Pre-season, I had this as a loss for UC Davis. As for the Big Sky, the biggest negative so far is the refs. The biggest positive is improved scheduling.

Too bad about the Aggie Band-uh not going - they used to go to all away games. They are a student-run, volunteer band with no unit credit and limited funding. Despite that they are probably the best FCS college marching band in the west. They usually march about 150 members for home games. Band members themselves would pay their own way to games but some UC administrators have put roadblocks in the way.

#1 on that list HAS to be Zach Bauman

I remember myself freshman year and the majority of my college friends....overemphasis on academics isn't exactly NAU's problem. Though it seems to be less of a party school than ASU or UofA.

NAU's lack of support problem is two-fold. 1.) People move there to hike/mountain bike/run/camp/outdoors. I don't debate this as this was one of my draws to Flagstaff as well. 2.) The sports fans up there give more of a shit about AZ's pro teams and ASU/UofA sports to bother walking five minutes for a free (with student ID) live NAU event. Buncha wankers.

Homecoming has not been kind recently to NAU. This could easily be a trap game for the Jacks if they don't take UC Davis seriously. Sacramento State whooped NAU two years ago for homecoming and the Griz beat NAU last year.

Elevation will only affect UC Davis if you don't have depth at certain positions.

The crowd could be good or it could be lackluster. You never know in Flagstaff. I'll be there yelling loud. Students in recent years have done their part but the community support has been pitiful. I hope this winning streak turns things around.
